Job Description
The registered professional nurse (RN-II) is responsible for utilizing job skills to effectively carry out the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, evaluation, documentation, and time management. They are accountable for quality communication, teamwork, leadership and professionalism, and also direct, coordinate, and implement patient teaching, quality/safety initiatives, and activities of other health team personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing.
An RN-II is responsible for the care of the population they are assigned. They must complete yearly mandatory competencies, any unit‑specific competencies identified by the Director/Designee, and the Professional Practice Ladder requirements. Responsibilities include assuming charge nurse duties, participating in PI activity and department initiatives, communicating and sharing information with Director/Designee and co‑workers, holding Valley Health paid education and practice workshops, and maintaining a current portfolio submitted annually by March 1st.
RN‑II routinely solicits and validates patient/family satisfaction, participates in peer review, and develops educational bulletin boards or posters for staff, patients, and family members.

Pay Range$34.00 – $48.87
EducationAssociates in Nursing (RN Diploma, ASN or ADN) is required. Bachelor's in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.
ExperienceAdvancement requires a minimum of 1872 full‑time or part‑time hours (936 if holding a BSN) of RN experience and completion of a performance evaluation.
Certification & LicensureRN license required. Candidates must have a license or be eligible to practice pending licensure as a Registered Nurse in the applicable state (Virginia and/or West Virginia) with either a multistate license under the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) or a single‑state license valid in the applicable state.
BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) – American Heart Association (AHA) healthcare provider – is required. New hires must have AHA certification prior to orientation.
Relevant specialty certification is preferred.
QualificationsMeets all requirements of an RN-I.
Competent to provide care based on cognitive, physical, emotional, and chronological stages of human growth and development.
Competent to provide care using the nursing process.
Must have a reliable means of phone communication with the hospital.
