Job Description
The registered professional nurse is responsible for utilizing job skills to effectively carry out the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, evaluation, documentation and time management. They provide quality communication, teamwork and leadership/professionalism, and direct, coordinate and implement patient teaching, quality/safety initiatives, and activities of other health team personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing.
Responsibilities and Expectations- Complete yearly mandatory competencies and any unit‑specific competencies identified by the Director/Designee.
- Complete the Professional Practice Ladder requirements, including Charge Nurse responsibilities, PI Activity, and department initiatives.
- Communicate and share information with the Director/Designee and co‑workers from unit or hospital committees.
- Maintain an up‑to‑date portfolio and submit it annually to the Director/Designee by March
1. - Solicit and validate patient/family satisfaction, participate in peer review for the unit, and develop bulletin board or poster providing educational information to staff, patients and family members.
- Provide care to the assigned population.
- Education:
RN diploma, ASN or ADN is required; BSN is preferred. - Experience:
Minimum of 1,872 full‑time or part‑time hours (936 hours if holding a BSN) of RN experience and completion of a performance evaluation. - Certification & Licensure:
Active RN license required in the primary state of residency and in accordance with Virginia and West Virginia nursing regulations (multistate NLC license or single‑state license). BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) from the American Heart Association is required prior to orientation. - Must meet all RNI requirements, be competent to provide care based on stages of human growth and the nursing process, and possess reliable phone communication with the hospital.
