Job Description
The Zone Mechanic will focus on operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing facility equipment on all systems. The technician must demonstrate technical expertise in one craft area (electrical, HVAC, piping/plumbing, central utility plant operations) and be multi-skilled in others to successfully complete daily/weekly work assignments. The Zone Mechanic assists and serves as a backup to other Facilities employees.

EducationHigh school diploma or GED required.
ExperienceThree to five years of general commercial maintenance experience in at least one relevant trade in a commercial, industrial, facilities operations, or healthcare setting. This includes knowledge and applicable skills in troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of commercial electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, boilers, or HVAC systems. Residential-only experience is insufficient for this position.
Certification & LicensuresCertification as a Journeyman, Apprentice, or in a commercial building-specific trade (e.g., HVAC, plumbing, electrical, BAS, etc.) preferred, or already working toward a certification. Must have a valid driver’s license (over 21 years old and less than
-4 points on the license).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Good problem‑solving skills, ability to prioritize work, and ability to work independently.
- Knowledge of commercial building automation systems (BAS) preferred.
- Knowledge of standard practices and procedures of construction trades such as plumbing, HVAC, electrical, carpentry, painting, and mechanical systems.
- General computer knowledge; preferably with Microsoft Windows.
- Read and comprehend plans and blueprints preferred.
- Hospitals operate 24/7; must be willing to work overtime and off‑hours for emergency situations.
- Ability to operate and use a broad spectrum of tools and equipment skillfully and safely.
