Job Description
The Zone Mechanic will have a strong focus on operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing facility equipment on all systems. Individuals are expected to demonstrate technical expertise in one craft area (electrical, HVAC, piping/plumbing, central utility plant operations) and be multi-skilled in others in order to successfully complete daily/weekly work assignments. The Zone Mechanic assists and serves as back-up to other Facilities employees.
Education High school diploma or GED required.
Experience Three to five years general commercial maintenance experience working in at least one relevant trade in a commercial, industrial, facilities operations, or a healthcare setting. This needs to include knowledge and applicable skills in troubleshooting, repair and maintenance in commercial electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, boilers, or HVAC systems. (Residential-only experience is insufficient for this position.)
Certification & Licensures Certification as a Journeyman, Apprentice, or in a commercial building-specific trade (E.g. HVAC, plumbing, electrical, BAS, etc.), or already working towards a certification preferred. Must have a valid driver's license (over 21 year old and less than
-4 points on their driver's license).
Qualifications
• Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Must have good problem solving skills, ability to prioritize work, and be able to work independently.
• Knowledge of commercial building automation systems (BAS) preferred.
• Knowledge of standard practices and procedures of construction trades such as plumbing, HVAC, electrical, carpentry, painting and mechanical systems.
• Must have general computer knowledge; preferably with Microsoft Windows.
• Read and comprehend plans and blueprints preferred.
• Hospitals operate 24/7, must be willing to work overtime and off-hours for emergency situations.
• Ability to operate and use a broad spectrum of tools and equipment skillfully and safely.
