Role Overview
This is the entry-level leadership position in the Family Services Specialist classification. It handles the most complex cases in Adult/Adult Protective Services, Child Protective Services, and Foster Care/Adoption. The role operates with a high degree of independence, seeking supervisory input only in unusually difficult situations.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage complex, high-difficulty social work cases across CPS, APS, and Foster Care/Adoption programs
* Provide guidance, mentorship, and consultation to junior staff; act in a supervisory capacity when the supervisor is absent
* Develop and deliver training for staff, interns, and community professionals; supervise social work interns
* Conduct home visits, home studies, family partnership meetings, and family finding activities
* Administer assessments, provide crisis intervention, and develop individualized service plans
* Provide court testimony and prepare court reports, home studies, and evaluations
* Coordinate with multi-disciplinary and interagency teams; monitor program compliance and expenditures
* Provide after-hours on-call coverage and respond to emergencies; participate in emergency shelter setup as needed
Qualifications
* Minimum Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field (or any Bachelor's degree plus 2+ years of relevant human services experience)
* Experience in a leadership role; considerable experience in the assigned program area
* BSW/MSW and a Virginia Social Work license are preferred
* Valid driver's license with a safe driving record required; must reside within a 1-hour commute of Winchester within 90 days
* Bilingual English-Spanish preferred
