Seasonal Motor Equipment Operator

Frederick County's Shawneeland Sanitary District is seeking dependable and safety-conscious individuals to serve as Seasonal Motor Equipment Operators. This position supports the District's seasonal operations through the safe and efficient operation of motorized equipment used for road maintenance, snow and ice removal, grounds maintenance, and other assigned duties.

The ideal candidate is reliable, comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions, and able to operate equipment safely and responsibly. This is an on-call seasonal position that may require flexible scheduling, including work during weekends, holidays, or other times when operational needs arise.

Core Hours On-Call Only | 12-hour shift during inclement weather Day Shift: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM Night Shift: 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM

As a Seasonal Motor Equipment Operator, you will:

  • Operate a pickup truck with a salt spreader and snowplow attached.
  • Operate a bobcat to load salt/sand onto salt spreaders.
  • Apply salt, sand, or other de-icing materials to improve road traction and safety.
  • Inspect and maintain equipment before, during, and after use to ensure proper operation.
  • Service equipment and make repairs and adjustments.
  • Respond promptly to on-call notifications during snow or ice events, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

What We're Looking For:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Prior experience operating snow removal equipment.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have a minimum of two years of driving experience.

Physical Demands:
Requires prolonged standing, walking, sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, gripping, and lifting or moving items up to 80 pounds. The position requires on-call availability for emergency weather situations, flexible scheduling, including weekends and holidays, and dependability.

Environmental Conditions:

Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions, including extreme cold and exposure to low temperatures.
