Job Summary

Supervisor of Operations – Managerial level, Full Time, located at DSV Distribution Center.

Position Summary

The Operations Supervisor is responsible for supervising, labor management, and planning of inbound, outbound, product slotting, and customer communication activities daily. This includes labor scheduling, space utilization, equipment and manpower management. People management responsibilities entail hiring and training, planning and assigning daily work, conducting performance appraisals, addressing performance issues, and resolving problems. Under the direction of the Operations Manager or Distribution Center Manager, the Supervisor oversees the receiving, warehousing, and shipping of products in a manner consistent with company service and cost objectives.

Associates are expected to meet company objectives in the areas of performance, safety, and quality and to comply with all corporate and site‑specific policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct staff meetings to review daily/weekly work activities, plan and assure continuous improvement.
  • Effectively keep senior management and client representatives informed of critical issues that affect operations.
  • Ensure development of systems and procedures for managing operations, equipment, and products in a safe and profitable manner in accordance with company policies, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Manage operations to meet prescribed productivity and service goals and comply with the site’s operating agreement with the client.
  • Implement and report on ongoing cost‑savings measures and provide ideas for more efficient operations.
  • Meet all client‑specified KPIs and comply with quality system requirements.
  • Manage operations to achieve prescribed objectives; apply sound communication and motivational techniques, create fair supervisory programs, counsel, and discipline team members as needed.
  • Assist Human Resources with hiring, training, and professional development programs and participate in performance evaluation, promotions, and wage increases.
  • Oversee training and evaluation of warehouse staff.
  • Plan the daily work schedule by reviewing existing work orders, arrival notices, and customer instructions; assess priorities based on time sensitivity and available resources; assign duties to appropriate warehouse staff.
  • Review pending jobs and trends, plan for reorganization of warehouse space, and adjust staffing or supplies as required.
  • Train new staff or delegate training responsibility to experienced members and assess progress.
  • Maintain awareness of quantity and quality of jobs performed throughout the day, providing guidance and advice as necessary.
  • Assign supervisory duties to experienced team members acting as leads for lower‑level staff and keep managers informed of progress or problems requiring attention.
  • Hold regular meetings with warehouse staff to assess overall status, discuss improvement ideas, and keep staff informed of new developments.
  • Assist in physical operations as needed.
  • Leverage the skills of the right people at the right time to deliver results.
  • Maintain high motivation in team members to focus on customer satisfaction.
  • Provide ongoing growth and development opportunities for team members.
  • Contribute to annual performance reviews for team members.
  • Support adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and train team members accordingly.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Three years’ experience in a logistics/distribution or related environment.
  • One year experience in a supervisory role.
  • Preferred:
    Prior MHE certification or knowledge of basic MHE operations.
Certifications
  • Satisfactory completion of a forklift training program.
Computer Skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • Experience with RF scanners and WMS functions.
Language Skills
  • Business communication proficiency.
Mathematical Skills
  • Basic to intermediate level to verify product quantities, count inventory, or perform other duties related to handling, storing, and distributing client products.
Other Skills
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and timely completion of tasks.
