The Accountant I performs a variety of accounting, clerical, and analytical duties in support of the City of Winder’s financial operations. Under the supervision of the Accounting Manager, this position assists with daily financial processing, monthly reconciliations, budget development, audit preparation, and maintenance of financial and statistical records. The role requires a high level of confidentiality, accuracy, and professionalism.

  • Policy compliance — Follows and promotes City of Winder policies and procedures.
  • Confidential records management — Handles sensitive files and materials responsibly.
  • Daily revenue balancing — Assists in balancing daily revenues and posting entries to the general ledger.
  • Monthly reconciliations — Conducts assigned reconciliations and supports annual audit activities.
  • Financial reporting — Assists in preparing financial reports and monthly expenditure analyses.
  • Invoice processing — Creates invoices, submits to customers, and maintains accurate customer account information.
  • Data maintenance — Maintains statistical data for departmental and citywide reporting.
  • Compliance reporting — Prepares and files the annual E‑Verify report.
  • Accounts receivable support — Copies, files, retrieves materials, and assists with revenue account reconciliation.
  • Budget and audit assistance — Supports budget preparation and annual audit processes.
  • Administrative support — Prepares memos, letters, and correspondence related to finance, budget, and audit topics.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Microsoft Office proficiency and familiarity with accounting software (Incode preferred).
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Ability to prepare, review, and proof financial documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Ability to perform clerical, administrative, and programmatic tasks with attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to complete projects within designated time frames.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, follow chain of command, and uphold ethical standards.
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions and maintain a positive work environment.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements, including extended periods of sitting.
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, management or related fields.
  • A minimum experience of one (1) year performing financial duties.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must meet department background requirements and pass a credit check.
  • Must never have been convicted of a felony.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
Licenses & Certifications
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain within six months, GGFOA membership.
  • Valid State of Georgia Driver License.
