SUMMARY_____________________________________________________________The CT Technologist assists with providing safe, age-appropriate care to the patient by performing all CT exams provided by the department according to department procedures with the knowledge and ability to obtain a quality diagnostic study properly and safely. Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgement, ingenuity, and initiative in the utilization of Computed Tomography equipment for the diagnosis and/or treatment of disease.

The technologist is able to independently perform job functions. Sets up the equipment to provide imaging service and positions patient for the procedure.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include, but are not limited to, the following)
  • Operation and responsibility for CT equipment and other medical equipment to produce high quality diagnostic scans.
  • Delivers compassionate care, while utilizing radiation protection to the patent under the guidelines of ALARA.
  • Demonstrates an adequate knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and physiology.
  • Communicates patient needs and responses through appropriate verbal and written correspondence.
  • Prepares patients having CT procedures with proper positioning.
  • Provides safe and effective IV contrast administration as directed and per protocol.
  • Load and operate power injector for contrast media administration.
  • Ensures documentation is complete and accurate regarding all aspects of patient care.
  • Ensures that patients have been prepared for procedures.
  • Assist Radiologists in developing new protocols and CT Imaging techniques.
  • Communicates clinical observations during CT scan examination to the Radiologist.
  • Monitors equipment and aides in coordination of repairs.
  • Maintain accurate patient records.
  • Maintains Quality Assurance program for ACR.
  • Competency with PACS and EMR systems.
  • Assists with performing and planning multiple diagnostic procedures in appropriate time sequence.
  • Provides assistance to colleagues in recognizing, interpreting, and managing unstable patient care situations.
  • Functions independently with little guidance from supervisor needed.
  • Provide training to new technologists with regular checks, direction and qualified work examples performed by an experienced team member.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE _______ ________________________Graduate from an accredited program in Radiologic Technology
Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (R)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include, but are not limited to, the following)
  • Delivers compassionate care to maintain a high standard of Radiography.
  • To ensure that the three principles of radiation protection, namely justification, optimization (ALARA) and dose constraints/limits are adhered to.
  • Escort patients to dressing and x-ray rooms, provide verbal and/or written instructions and assist patients in positioning body parts to be radiographed.
  • Ensure patient comfort and safety.
  • Operate radiologic equipment to produce images of the body for diagnostic purposes.
