Introduction
We are recruiting for a Secretary 2 to support the Departments of Art/Art History and World Languages and Cultures at Eastern Connecticut State University (ECSU). ECSU is a public liberal arts institution that provides high‑quality undergraduate and select graduate programs to a diverse student body.
Position Highlights- Full‑time, 40 hours per week (Monday‑Friday, 8:00 am‑5:00 pm)

Art/Art History: Offers instruction in Art History, Digital and New Media, and traditional studio arts.
World Languages and Cultures: Provides courses that foster cultural understanding and advanced communication skills.
Responsibilities- Perform a broad range of secretarial duties including typing, proofreading, and editing correspondence and reports.
- Maintain files, reference materials, and confidential documents.
- Compose complex letters and memoranda.
- Prepare narrative and statistical reports.
- Answer phones, greet visitors, and provide policy guidance.
- Screen and process letters, memos, reports, and other materials.
- Arrange and coordinate meetings; prepare meeting materials and minutes.
- Write expense accounts and make travel arrangements.
- Maintain an inventory of supplies; order supplies when needed.
- Process purchase orders, requisitions, invoices, and time and attendance records.
- Assist in preparing and monitoring the office budget.
- Design and implement new forms and procedures to improve workflow.
- Perform related duties as required.
- Office systems, procedures, and proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
- Business communications; department policies and procedures; business math.
- Interpersonal skills; oral and written communication.
- Schedule and prioritize office workflow; operate office equipment and software.
- Take shorthand or speed writing notes.
- Three (3) years of experience above the routine clerk level in office support or secretarial work.
- One (1) year of experience as a Secretary 1 or its equivalent.
- College training in secretarial sciences may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equaling one‑half (½) year of experience to a maximum of two (2) years.
- Previous experience working in a college or university setting.
- Comfortable walking and moving between campus buildings; ability to work in noisy environments.
- Exceptional computer skills (Microsoft Office 365, Word, Excel, Outlook, One Drive); familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, or similar.
- Experience with Banner, CORE‑CT, or other university technology platforms.
- Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate with vendors and department staff.
- Experience using P‑cards and reconciling departmental purchases in compliance with procurement policies.
- Experience monitoring departmental budgets; scheduling and planning departmental events.
- Experience typing and proofreading foreign texts and reading student handwriting.
