Windham Primary School has a dynamic team of special educators and support staff. The successful candidate will provide support and instruction to students with functional and academic deficits as outlined in their IEPs, in both special education and regular education settings. Essential duties, responsibilities, and qualifications include:
- Provide research‑based reading, writing, and math instruction in a special education setting.
- Provide specialized instruction in social skills and executive function skills in a special education setting.
- Promote student learning and engagement by developing and delivering lessons based on appropriate instructional goals and ongoing assessments.
- Use a variety of instructional approaches and techniques in the least restrictive environment.
- Work with students with behavioral challenges.
- Employ strong classroom management skills.
- Collaborate across multiple grades as a team member.
- Demonstrate strong time management and organizational skills.
- Collaborate and communicate with families, colleagues, and students.
- Fulfill case‑management responsibilities such as writing comprehensive IEPs and written notices in compliance with IDEA timelines and district procedures.
- Use ongoing assessments and data collection to refine academic and behavioral interventions, assess student growth, and provide meaningful feedback.
- Promote positive student behavior by building a culture of respect and active participation.
- Maintain a reflective and open mindset, willing to grow professionally.
- Participate in regularly scheduled special education department meetings.
- Perform other duties assigned by the building administrator, director of student services, or superintendent.
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s preferred).
- Must hold or be in the process of obtaining a State of Maine certification with endorsement K‑8 282 and an approved CHRC at time of hire.
- Must provide letters of recommendation from supervisor(s) and colleagues.
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
