High School Social Studies Teacher – Windham, Maine

Job Description

This is not an all inclusive listing.

  • Teaches content and skills in social studies, history, geography, American government, political science, or humanities to secondary pupils, utilizing the course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.
  • Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
  • Develops a balanced social studies program involving factual background material on current events, discussion time, and other appropriate activities designed to encourage pupils to develop skills and attitudes, draw conclusions, improve interpersonal relationships, and make value judgments based on scientific methods of inquiry.
  • Selects and requisitions books and aids appropriate to the interest and maturity level of pupils; maintains required inventory controls.
  • Encourages students to think independently.
  • Provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils with varying intellectual abilities, attitudes, and cultural background.
  • Evaluates pupils' progress.
  • Communicates with parents.
  • Participates in curriculum development.
  • Participates in faculty committees and sponsorship of student activities.
  • Develops an understanding of the contributions of racial, religious, and political groups to American culture.
  • Encourages students to become aware of the complexity and interrelations of local, state, national, and world problems.
Job Requirements
  • Must have State of Maine Certification with endorsement 200 and approved CHRC at time of hire.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
