Collins Aerospace is one of the world’s largest suppliers of technologically advanced aerospace and defense products. Within our Civil Space business, we have manufactured and actively maintain the fleet of spacesuits onboard the International Space Station, supply Artemis missions with life support hardware (including the “Space Toilet”), and produce thermal control hardware for satellites and other specialized systems. We have an opening in our Chemistry Laboratory that we are looking to fill with an organized and personable candidate who will perform primarily analytical chemistry measurements.
Material identification (e.g., FTIR) and microbiology testing are also routinely performed in the role. The successful candidate will interact with an array of internal and external customers in a team‑oriented environment supporting engineering and manufacturing of our products.
- Operating and maintaining/troubleshooting analytical chemistry equipment that includes GC (FID, TC, MS), IC, ICP, UV‑vis, FTIR, TOC analyzer, and Karl Fischer titrator.
- Performing wet chemistry, including titrations and chemical processing, to assist in the manufacture and testing of hardware.
- Applying analytical chemistry knowledge to develop and refine test methods to drive accuracy, repeatability, and efficiency in measurements/analysis.
- Collecting and analyzing fluid, residue, and debris samples from hardware, including use of aseptic techniques for microbial enumeration (training to be provided for microbial analysis techniques).
- Identifying unknown materials (foreign object debris) and assisting in investigations of out‑of‑specification hardware.
- Managing inventory of supplies, reagents, standards, and other chemicals.
- Observing good laboratory practices and maintaining a safe, clean work area.
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience.
- This position is considered safety sensitive in accordance with NASA Guidelines. Candidate will be subject to drug and alcohol testing per NASA’s regulation SUBPART 1835.5 Drug‑Free Workforce.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related technical discipline.
- At least 2 years of analytical chemistry experience.
