Must be able to work without supervision and plan daily work schedule. Performs complex operational tasks, including calculation of running time, batch recipes, batch time to completion. Manages multiple priorities and tasks simultaneously. Coordinates pulping schedule and shift activities. Operates and understands the fiber recovery pulper process and instrumentation panels and systems. Understands and complies with site/mill/area safety and environmental policies and guidelines, RCRA waste handling procedures, confined space, lockout/tag out and safety regulations.
Participates in weekly safety audits and all area monthly safety meetings. Ensures compliance of other personnel in the general fiber recovery area. Communicates any process, quality, environmental or equipment problems to supervision and takes on or recommends corrective actions. Responsible for proper document control of pulper orders and reports. Responds to quality, equipment or process upsets within allowable ranges. Makes adjustments as required.
Prepares pulper stock runs in accordance with written instructions and on-job training. Must be accurate and vigilant in measuring water and chemicals. Records actual use of chemicals and materials using hand-written tour reports, log books and a CRT-based process control system with data acquisition terminal. Maintains cleanliness in the housekeeping area of assignment or as directed by supervision. Participates in or leads “a plus” teams for the fiber recovery area or other areas as required.
Performs other related projects and duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Must have high school or equivalent education.
- Minimum requirement of two years in an industrial/manufacturing environment, preferably in fiber recovery operations.
- Ability to read, write and understand fluent English.
- Basic math skills for performing batch adjustment calculations.
- Licensed to operate forklift, pallet loader and material handling equipment.
- Must have knowledge of Ahlstrom Information Security policies and is personally responsible for ensuring information security when handling information and maintaining or using information systems or information networks.
- This position is additionally responsible as part of the manufacturing flexibility program to cross-train and be fully qualified to work in at least one other alternate position within the manufacturing operation.
- Ability to lift a maximum of 50 lbs.
- Ability to work overtime, weekends or shifts as required.
- Constant alertness and high manual dexterity.
- Ability to sustain continuous exposure to heat, unpleasant odors, noise and vibrations.
- Wear PPE as required including face shields, protective suites and facemasks.
- Must possess a minimum corrected vision of 20/40 (vision to be checked every two years with records to reside in the medical department).
