Purpose:

This position is responsible for retrieving/moving product safely and efficiently to/from storage locations for staging and shipping. The Material Handler is responsible for housekeeping and safety in their work environment.

Key Accountabilities/

Essential Functions:
  • Operate a Lift Truck with various attachments.
  • Maintain assigned lift truck, including changing batteries.
  • Follow instructions from supervision, either via the two-way radio or written schedule from the load/work assignment sheet.
  • Ensure all material is received into the warehouse without damage.
  • Report any accidents immediately to supervision.
  • Store incoming goods within the warehouse in the correct location.
  • Properly fill out all reports and forms required.
  • Read, understand and follow Process Maps, work instructions.
  • Physically control the movement and loading of manufactured rolls of paper.
  • Understand and comply with departmental and job specific safety rules, as well as the Site Safety Plan. Comply with all Lock Out/Tag Out procedures. Correct or identify any unsafe act or conditions to supervision.
  • Understand and comply with ADC spill containment guidelines.
  • Responsible for reporting any mechanical defective parts or malfunctions to supervision. Communicate daily process related problems to supervision and at shift change.
  • Understand maintenance requirements of lift trucks.
  • Allocate finished goods to orders and re‑labeling if necessary.
Education, Technical Knowledge, Experience and Skill Requirements:
  • High school
  • Basic Math skills
  • Read and write English
  • 2/3 Years as Material Handler II and one year as Material Handler III is preferred
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to operate hand‑held RF scanners and be aware of packaging problems.
  • Must have knowledge of various types of load bracing for all types of shipments.
  • Must have leadership skills and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to upgrade job skills through participation in periodic training programs as available.
  • Provide on‑the‑job training for crew members.
  • Must be physically and mentally able to perform similar job functions in other areas.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Ability to utilize ASSIST.
  • Utilization of AS400 for inquiry, shop order receipts and allocations.
  • Understand and comply with ADC spill containment guidelines.
  • Must be able to make minor repairs to equipment when instructed by supervision.
  • Must have knowledge of Ahlstrom Information Security policies and be responsible for ensuring information security when handling information and maintaining or using information systems or information networks.
  • This position is additionally responsible as part of the manufacturing flexibility program to cross‑train and be fully qualified to work in at least one other alternate position within the manufacturing operation.
Physical Demands:
  • Must be able to handle up to 50 lbs. and complete tasks that require difficult positioning.
  • Must constantly be alert.
  • Must be able to work in severely fluctuating temperatures.
  • Vision tested minimum requirements is corrected to 20/40 far vision and 20/30 near vision.
  • Exposure to dust, vibration, chemical, temperature variation and sharp cutting equipment.
  • Protective equipment is required.
  • Ability to work carefully around potentially dangerous machinery.
  • Must be physically able to operate a lift truck.
  • Perform other jobs as instructed by supervision.

Temporary assignments to alternate workstations may be required to meet production demand.
