Duties Position to be filled upon vacancy of the incumbent.
JOB SUMMARY:
The purpose of this position is to serve as a Small Shop Chief (SSC) with the responsibility for the overall operations of a small shop. The position oversees and directs the work of WG-5378, Powered Support Systems Mechanics, who are assigned to the shop. The incumbent performs the full range of non-supervisory work of the shop. NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED.
This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Connecticut Army National Guard. The major duties include, but are not limited to:
* Plans and lays out work to be accomplished in the shop which is then completed by the individual and lower graded worker(s).
* Performs the same type and level of work as performed within the unit.
* Implements safety regulatory requirements.
* Participates in various types of readiness preparations, inspections, evaluations, and mobilization and command support exercises.
* Independently determines appropriate maintenance procedures such as how and when the work should be accomplished.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The incumbent works inside and outside in inclement weather, on icy or slippery ramps, aircraft surfaces and work stands, and in temperature and humidity extremes and is subject to the danger from exposure to an environment of toxic fumes, high pressure air and fluids, fast actuating metal aircraft surfaces, such as rotor heads, landing gear, explosive munitions, weapons, engine noise, heat, blast, intake suction, fast moving main gear box devices, rotating shafts, cartridge actuating devices, electrical voltage, fire and explosion caused by aircraft fuels, solvents, lubricants, paints and dusts, sharp edges, confined spaces.
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
The incumbent is required to climb, stand, stoop, bend, stretch and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts parts and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing over 50 pounds. Requirements Conditions of employment
* Incumbent is required to serve a 2-year trial/probationary period.
* Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
* National Guard Membership is required.
* Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
* Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
* Must meet Compatible Military Assignment within one year from placement.
* Wear of the military uniform is mandatory.
* Direct Deposit is mandatory.
* Must possess a valid state drivers license. Qualifications GENERAL
EXPERIENCE:
Experience or training which demonstrates the knowledge of mechanical maintenance work; ability to read and use technical manuals, illustrations, diagrams and schematics, and skill in the use of equipment and hand tools used in troubleshooting, testing and repairing equipment. SPECIALIZED
EXPERIENCE:
Your resume and any other supporting documentation you wish to provide must clearly substantiate you currently possess 18 months of specialized experience in the following:
* Experience or training removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing parts, components, and accessories.
* Experience which provided working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic theory applying to powered support equipment and systems; and skill to replace, fit, install, and make adjustments.
* Experience which provided working knowledge of the makeup and operation of the various individual systems maintained and their interrelationships.
* Experience reading and interpreting parts lists, manufactures' repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
* Ability to plan and accomplish a functional shop maintenance program.
* Skill in surveillance and troubleshooting techniques.
* Skill in servicing, repairing, and maintaining powered support systems equipment.
* Ability to troubleshoot malfunctions and determine causes of mechanical problems.
* Ability to use common mechanics tools, power tools, and precision measuring equipment.
* Skill in using diagnostic and test equipment.
* Ability to interpret technical manual illustrations, specifications, diagrams, and schematics to make repairs and modifications. COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENT:
All applications will be considered regardless of Branch/AOC/FA/MOS. Incumbent will be required to be assigned to compatible military position within 1 year of selection. The selected individual may be required to attend formal technician school training. MILITARY GRADE (Prior to Application):
