Introduction

The Connecticut Airport Authority (CAA) is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Airport Operations Assistant Specialist at Bradley International Airport (BDL) in Windsor Locks, Connecticut. This full-time 40 hour per week position requires flexibility to work nights, weekends, holidays, and other non-traditional hours to support the airport's 24/7 operations.

This role includes a critical winter operations and snow response responsibility, requiring participation in mandatory snow operations assignments from November 1 through April 30. During winter weather events, employees must be available to support airfield and operational activities as needed to help ensure the safe and efficient operation of the airport.

Your Role

As a member of CAA's Airport Operations team, the Airport Operations Assistant Specialist plays a key role in maintaining the safety, security, and efficiency of operations s position is responsible for adhering to all requirements of the Airport Certification Manual (ACM), including Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations outlined in 14 CFR Part 139. This role supports critical airport operations functions, including conducting airfield inspections, implementing the Snow and Ice Control Plan, coordinating responses to aircraft and non-aviation emergencies, addressing wildlife hazards, and managing other conditions that could impact the safe operation of aircraft.

The position also serves as a frontline resource for airport tenants, stakeholders, and customers by responding to operational issues, coordinating escorts, reporting maintenance concerns, and assisting with security-related incidents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support Airport Operations Specialists in the oversight and coordination of daily airport activities at BDL.
  • Coordinate and monitor ongoing airport operations during assigned shifts to ensure the safe, secure, and efficient movement of aircraft, vehicles, and personnel.
  • Serve as a liaison among airline partners, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Fixed Base Operators (FBOs), airport tenants, and lessees.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and airport regulations, policies, and programs, including the Airport Certification Manual (ACM), Airport Security Plan, Airport Emergency Plan, Airport Diversion Plan, and Wildlife Hazard Management Program.
  • Perform daily airfield inspections of the air operations areas to ensure compliance with established safety and maintenance standards.
  • Monitor runway and airfield conditions and may issue Notices to Air Missions (NOTAMs) to communicate operational conditions and hazards to pilots, airlines, and the FAA.
  • Assist in coordinating snow and ice control operations with maintenance staff to maintain airfield safety during winter weather events.
  • Support terminal, landside, and ground transportation operations as needed to ensure a seamless customer and operational experience.
  • May assist with airport noise management initiatives and respond to noise-related inquiries and complaints.
  • Provide operational support during emergency incidents, security events, irregular operations, and other airport disruptions.
  • Prepare reports, maintain operational records, and document incidents, inspections, and activities as required.
  • Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.
