Job Description
Data Acquisition Engineer - RTS will be responsible for setting up and conducting data acquisition using various data acquisition systems. This involves coordinating test specimen build, setting up data acquisition systems, data processing, and communicating with stakeholders. As part of the core responsibilities, the Data Acquisition Engineer will be required to have a detailed understanding of the data acquisition systems and various transducers used and how they interact as well as CAN communication.
The ability to operate and conduct data acquisition at proving grounds and a thorough understanding of damage severity concepts is required. The successful candidate will be a process and detail-oriented individual with a proven ability to lead projects from start to finish with minimal guidance. Additionally, good communication and leadership skills are required to coordinate and instruct bargaining unit mechanics in performing vehicle instrumentation, part strain gauging, and part changes.
Finally, an integral component of being a successful member of our team requires working collaboratively with the RTS mechanic supervisor, union, management, maintenance, and facilities teams.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Industrial/Aeronautical Engineering from an accredited university.
- Experience with data acquisition equipment using various transducers including wheel force transducers, accelerometers, load cells, and strain gages.
- Understanding of damage severity analysis and stress-life/load-life calculations.
- NCode, MTS RPC Pro, and Flex Test experience preferred.
- Competent with the Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and VBA.
- Robust time management, leadership, planning, and follow-up skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Minimum of 2-5 years of engineering experience within a testing environment within the automotive industry.
- Will consider new graduates with related co-op experience.
- Ability to support working days as well as overtime during the week and weekends on occasion.
- Experience working in a unionized environment.
- Required to drive a company car; valid driver's license and clean driving record required.
- Required to travel domestically and internationally 10-20% of the time.
- Ability to qualify for US TN visa or similar.
- Master’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Industrial/Aeronautical Engineering.
- Experience with nCode and Somat eDAQ equipment.
- Previous CANBUS experience (CANalyzer, etc.).
- Strain gauge theory and application.
The expected base salary range for this position is $30 – $36 per hour, depending on experience, skills, and internal equity.
