We are seeking a highly motivated Wire Harness Design & Release Engineer to support the design, development, validation, and release of automotive wiring harness systems. The ideal candidate will be responsible for end-to-end wiring harness engineering activities, including CAD design, engineering documentation, supplier collaboration, launch support, and change management throughout the product lifecycle. This role requires close interaction with manufacturing, quality, suppliers, and cross-functional engineering teams to ensure robust product design and successful vehicle program execution.
Key Responsibilities- Design and develop wiring harness assemblies and related electrical components for vehicle programs.
- Create and maintain 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings using industry-standard CAD tools.
- Ensure all engineering drawings and documentation accurately reflect the Model-Based Definition (Model is Master) requirements.
- Prepare, review, and release engineering documentation including:
Change Notices (CN), Component Change Documents (CCD), Initial Application Approvals (IAA), Product Engineering Releases (PER) - Evaluate, justify, and implement engineering changes to support vehicle program requirements.
- Lead and support First Piece Sign-Off (FPSO) and Production Sign-Off (PSO) activities with Supplier Quality teams.
- Manage engineering issues through GIMs, including root cause analysis, corrective actions, and issue resolution.
- Support vehicle launch activities and provide engineering support at manufacturing and assembly plants.
- Participate in development and maintenance of: DFMEA (Design Failure Mode & Effects Analysis), DVP&R (Design Verification Plan & Report), Functional Objectives (FO), Design Rule Compliance documentation
- Review supplier-generated DFMEA and DVP&R documents to ensure engineering compliance.
- Participate in ACE packaging meetings, design reviews, and scroll reviews.
- Maintain engineering records and documentation in systems such as PDP, FASTCAR, and SharePoint.
- Support complexity management activities, compliance reporting, and PASD chart development.
- Provide technical input for owner's manuals, service documentation, and related engineering publications.
- Drive component standardization, best practices, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related discipline.
- Minimum 3+ years of experience in automotive wiring harness design, release engineering, or vehicle electrical systems.
- Minimum 4+ years of overall engineering experience.
- Strong understanding of automotive electrical architecture, wiring harness design principles, and release processes.
- Experience with engineering change management and product release documentation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Master's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- Formal training or certification in: DFMEA, DVP&R, DFSS (Design for Six Sigma)
- Experience with CAD tools:
Siemens NX, CATIA - Hands‑on experience with Capital XC for 2D wiring harness design.
- Knowledge of automotive wiring harness manufacturing processes and high‑volume production environments.
- Familiarity with automotive electrical schematics, wiring drawings, and engineering specifications.
- Experience using SharePoint, PLM systems, or other engineering data management platforms.
