Our client, a leading automotive part and tooling manufacturer currently requires a Tooling Engineer with extensive tier 1 automotive experience.

Reporting To:
Engineering Manager / Launch Manager
The Tier 1 Tooling Engineer manages the end-to‑to tooling lifecycle—from initial RFQ and DFM to final PPAP approval and SOP (Start of Production). You will serve as the primary technical contact between our OEM customers (Stellantis, Ford, GM, VW) and our internal production teams. Your goal is to ensure all tooling is delivered on time, within budget, and capable of meeting rigorous automotive quality and cycle‑time requirements.
Key Responsibilities- OEM Liaison:
Lead technical reviews with OEM engineers to optimize part design for manufacturing. Ensure all tooling designs align with specific customer standards (e.g., Ford’s, GM or Stellantis’ Tooling Manuals). - APQP & PPAP Integration:
Drive the tooling portion of the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) process. Ensure all tools are Production Ready; and meet PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) requirements. - Global Tooling Management:
Oversee tool builds at local Windsor shops or international vendors (USA/Asia/Europe). This includes conducting onsite tool buy-offs and managing the logistics of tool shipment and installation. - Cap Ex Budgeting:
Manage multi‑million‑dollar tooling budgets. Track Actual vs. Quote costs and manage Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) to ensure cost recovery from the customer. - Root Cause Analysis:
Utilize 8D, 5‑Why, and Fishbone methodologies to solve complex tooling‑related quality escapes or dimensional non‑conformances. - Continuous Improvement:
Optimize existing Tier 1 production lines by implementing automated or quick‑change systems to reduce changeover times (SMED).
- Education:
B.A.Sc. or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with a technical tooling background is a significant asset in the Tier 1 space (Tool Designer/Toolmaker with a solid Tooling Engineering background will also be considered). - Experience:
5–10 years in a Tier 1 automotive stamping/tooling environment. - Quality Standards:
Deep working knowledge of IATF 16949 and ISO 9001 standards. - Technical Proficiency:
High‑level mastery of NX, Catia, or Solid Works for surfacing and Tool/die flow analysis. - GD&T Expert:
Ability to interpret complex datum schemes and apply them to gauge and fixture design.
