The opportunity
CBC Windsor is looking for an energetic and enterprising associate producer/technician to play a vital role on our afternoon radio program . This is a regional program co-produced with CBC London that serves people across southwestern Ontario.
This position strikes a true balance for someone who takes pride in journalistic
storytelling and is a proficient live-to-air radio engineer. You believe in the value of local journalism and you are committed to serving the audience. You’re tapped into local communities throughout the Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent and Sarnia-Lambton area and you want to give the newsmakers, however big or small, a voice on multiple platforms.
In this role, you begin your day identifying what's making news and what people are talking about in the region. You look for story follows and pitch original current affairs ideas for the day. With the help of the Afternoon Drive team, you pivot to production to chase guests, prepare interview scripts, conduct field interviews, produce audio-rich paks, and develop regular features and program segments.
You are also the eyes and ears in the Windsor newsroom, ensuring breaking news and your colleagues’ work is featured prominently in newscasts and on the radio program.
As the technical wiz, you then bring our live afternoon show to air – operating the console, troubleshooting if something is amiss, making sure everything rolls out smoothly and sounds great. You are calm and level-headed in a high-paced environment. You are a team player who can work well with different people and always jumps in to help whenever needed. You’re comfortable on air, giving live updates or bantering with the host.
You have a proven track record in live-to-air radio and are skilled in gathering and mixing audio elements for broadcast. You are comfortable recording in-studio as well as mounting live shows in remote locations. The ideal candidate can also create content for multiple platforms, and demonstrate exceptional skills in verbal and written communication, as well as story generation.
