School Psychologist

The School Psychologist is responsible for delivering comprehensive psychological services within the educational setting to support the academic, behavioral, emotional, and social success of all students. The role involves conducting formal and informal assessments to assist in the identification, placement, and development of educational programs for students eligible for special education services. The School Psychologist collaborates with educators, parents, and other professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments.

The School Psychologist conducts comprehensive psycho educational evaluations to determine student eligibility for special education under IDEA and Section 504. They utilize a variety of formal and informal assessment tools and techniques to evaluate intellectual, academic, social-emotional, and behavioral functioning. They interpret and present assessment findings clearly and effectively to educational teams and families, ensuring evaluations comply with state and federal regulations and district procedures.

The School Psychologist develops and implements evidence-based interventions to address academic, social, emotional, and behavioral challenges. They participate in Response to Intervention (RTI)/Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) processes and provide consultation on student progress and needs. They collaborate in the development of Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) and provide direct and indirect counseling services to students, as appropriate.

The School Psychologist serves as a member of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) and 504 teams. They collaborate with teachers, administrators, parents, and other professionals to develop effective strategies to support student learning and well-being. They provide professional development and training to staff on topics such as mental health, trauma-informed practices, behavior management, and learning disabilities.

The School Psychologist supports students and staff in crisis situations, including risk assessments and safety planning. They assist with the development and implementation of school-wide crisis response and prevention programs. They maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation, including evaluation reports, progress notes, and service logs.

Required qualifications include a valid Colorado Department of Education (CDE) Special Services License – School Psychologist, knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, and MTSS/RTI frameworks, experience conducting comprehensive psycho educational evaluations, strong understanding of child development, learning theories, and evidence-based practices, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams. Preferred qualifications include previous school-based experience and familiarity with digital assessment tools and IEP management systems.

The working conditions and physical requirements include frequent interaction with students, staff, and families in a school environment, potential travel between schools within the district, the ability to sit for extended periods and perform computer-based work, and occasional lifting of materials or equipment (up to 25 lbs).
