The Connecticut Valley Tobacco Museum - Attendant (Part time)
The Connecticut Valley Tobacco Historical Society (CVTHS) and the Town of Windsor are seeking an energetic Attendant for a 15-hour-a-week position at the Connecticut Valley Tobacco Museum located in Northwest Park in Windsor, CT. CVTHS is a nonprofit organization that has partnered for over 25 years with the Town of Windsor to operate a museum featuring the agricultural, economic, and cultural history of cigar tobacco in the Connecticut River Valley.
Northwest Park is a 473-acre municipal park which features a nature center, hiking trails, and heritage breed livestock.
The work schedule is Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from noon - 5:00pm, for a maximum of 15 hours per week, 28 weeks per year, unless modified with fore notice. The hourly rate is $20.00 an hour. The museum is opened from the first Thursday in April through the last Saturday in October, and is closed during the winter. This position works under the supervision of the CVTHS Board of Directors and in conjunction with the Park Manager for the overall unity of Northwest Park.
Requires a drug screen (includes screening for marijuana) and criminal background check before hiring.
- Answers visitor questions in a personable manner in person or via telephone; daily checks voicemail and emails and responds to each in a timely manner.
- Develops new and innovative exhibits and maintains existing exhibits that reflect the Tobacco Industry of the entire Connecticut Valley Region.
- Maintains and updates visitor amenities in the Archives Building. Ensures that the building is organized and clutter free, making it ready for visitors and tours at all times.
- Professionally receives physical donations, if valid, and processes them correctly.
- Conducts tours of the Archives Building. Tours must be adapted for various groups such as the general public, school groups or senior citizens.
- Reports to the CVTHS Board of Directors at monthly meetings and follows through with suggestions from the Board for the betterment of the museum.
- Works with other local institutions for support, co-sponsor ships, and events as the need arises.
- Monitors monetary donations, develops active donations from the public, reports donations and petty cash monthly to the Board of Directors and at the Annual Budget Meeting and per request of any Board member.
- Regularly meets with the Park Manager and sends a monthly report on activities, number of visitors, etc.
- Performs other duties as required.
- Experience using office software, databases, and web-based applications.
- Ability to be a self-starter and work independently
