Title: High School Completion RLA and Social Studies Instructor
Schedule: Tuesdays, 6:00PM-8:30PM, Two 12‑Week Semesters
Semester Start Dates: Fall – September 21, 2026;
Spring – January 25, 2027
Hourly Rate: $50.08 per hour
Qualifications- Proficiency in reading, writing, and mathematics, and ability to instruct RLA and Social Studies according to Common Core State Standards (CCSS).
- Proficient computer skills.
- Certification requirements established by Connecticut State Statutes.
- Adherence to Windsor Board of Education requirements for this position.
- Maintain current Adult Education Endorsements (endorsement 107) and provide a copy to the program facilitator.
- Compliance with all mandates set forth by the Connecticut State Department of Education.
Provide numeracy instruction for high school equivalency and work readiness to students.
Duties and Responsibilities – Instruction- Demonstrate knowledge of the subject(s) to be taught.
- Demonstrate knowledge of CCSS.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the Connecticut Competency System (CCS), including the Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment (CASAS) Competencies.
- Use CASAS Pre/Post assessment results to plan and differentiate instruction based on learner abilities and goals.
- Effectively communicate with students.
- Provide opportunities for out‑of‑class instruction and assistance.
- Collaborate with the Program Facilitator in implementing CCS.
- Use the Blended Learning Environment Model for students.
- Be on time for all scheduled classes.
- Supervise assigned class and never leave students unsupervised.
- Organize time, space, materials, and equipment effectively.
- Establish a positive learning environment and enforce student behavior contracts as outlined in the student handbook.
- Follow up with students who have poor attendance.
- Enter timely and accurate student attendance in the LACES reporting system.
- Effectively assess student needs and progress using the CASAS Assessment System with guidance from Program Facilitators.
- Be aware of individual student needs.
- Demonstrate knowledge of human growth and development as it relates to the teaching‑learning process.
- Help students develop positive self‑concepts.
- Participate in staff development, meetings, and awards ceremonies as scheduled by the adult education facilitator.
- Agree and adhere to the Windsor Public Schools Professional Growth Policy P4120.
- Attend staff meetings at the beginning of each semester and as needed.
- Support the adult education program and students by attending the annual Awards Ceremony.
- Support the adult education program by attending the annual Connecticut Association for Adult and Continuing Education Conference held in March.
- Be knowledgeable and comfortable using technology for planning and instruction, including computers (laptop/desktop), iPad, Chromebook, Smart Board, projector, etc.
- Be proficient in Gmail and Google Docs.
