ABA Instructor Tier 3
Since 1966, the Capitol Region Education Council (CREC) has been dedicated to providing innovative, high-quality, and cost-effective educational programs and services to meet the diverse needs of children and adults in Greater Hartford. Serving 33 member districts and reaching additional communities statewide, CREC supports approximately 12,000 students annually through more than 120 educational programs. Our offerings include professional learning and coaching for educators, specialized programming for students with diverse needs, and PreK-12 education across 16 interdistrict magnet schools.
Additionally, CREC provides school construction, operations, and cooperative business services, while also delivering programs that help adults build real, job-ready skills.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of Program Director or designee, the role of the Applied Behavior Analytic Instructor (ABAI) - Tier 3 is to support one-to-one, small and large group classroom instruction as well as train, implement, and/or oversee academic, behavioral, or other interventions and strategies based on the principles of Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) as outlined in students' individualized programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities, competencies, qualifications and other requirements for the ABAI Tier 3 are outlined below.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Support daily functions of the school, including arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess, and classroom coverage.
- Provide 1:1 and/or small group instruction under teacher direction.
- Implement academic and behavioral programming.
- Implement individualized Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
- Supervise students during instructional and non-instructional times.
- Collect and input continuous and discontinuous data.
- Complete required documentation and data entry into designated systems.
- Participate in clinical reviews and team meetings.
- Prepare instructional materials and organize the classroom environment.
- Assist with daily living skills (e.g., toileting, hygiene).
- Maintain Safety Care certification and implement procedures as needed.
- Uphold CREC policies and perform other duties as assigned.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated proficiency in data collection, BIP implementation, and instructional delivery.
- Support onboarding and orientation of new staff under the teacher or Tier 3 direction.
- Serve as a Qualified Staff Member (QSM) in preschool settings.
- Provide on-the-spot training and guidance to float staff.
- Plan and deliver small group activities with teacher input.
- Complete and maintain competency-based training documentation.
- Enter data into spreadsheets and databases independently.
- Provide feedback on programming and materials under the direction of the team.
- Train and mentor Tier 1 and Tier 2 staff using established checklists and competency tools to ensure effective performance.
- Serve as a point of contact in the teacher's absence, including managing the daily schedule, communicating with parents, and making instructional decisions aligned with student goals.
- Contribute to assessment activities and assist with tools such as the ABLLS-R and VB-MAPP.
- Provide structured input on programming (e.g., prompting hierarchy, reinforcement schedules, materials, data sheets).
- Support clinical and educational teams with special projects and data reviews.
- Participate in candidate interviews and onboarding processes.
- Attend and support staff training, scheduling meetings.
- Model professional communication and conduct across all stakeholders.
- Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's Degree, RBT, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of three (3) years of experience at an equivalent ABA program with individuals with autism and/or disabilities. Satisfactory performance evaluation(s) are required for achieving and maintaining this Level. Demonstrates excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate with all staff. RBT supervision provided as available and approved; BCBA supervision hours provided as available and approved.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide transportation to job sites, meetings, trainings, and professional learning opportunities as required.
