The Planning Services Development & Solutions group plays a vital role in ensuring New England's power system can meet future energy and resource adequacy needs reliably, efficiently, and cost‑effectively. As the grid evolves in response to decarbonization goals, public policy, emerging technologies, and shifting demand, the team leads the development of advanced analytical tools, modeling frameworks, and market design solutions that support a clean and resilient energy future.

In this role, you will contribute to high‑visibility research and modeling initiatives that inform system planning and market decisions. Working within a small, high‑performing team and alongside a broad set of stakeholders, you will deliver rigorous analysis and actionable recommendations to strengthen resource capacity and energy adequacy modeling, demand forecasting, supply accreditation, and long‑term system projections-requiring both technical precision and clear, compelling communication.

What we offer you:

A stable, mission-driven workplace where your impact truly matters
A highly engaged work environment that values inclusion, collaboration, and employee safety and wellbeing
Competitive compensation with a base salary + performance bonus
Robust benefits package, including:

Enhanced 401(k) and financial planning support
Tuition reimbursement and professional development
Wellness programs, including an onsite gym

Onsite luncheon spaces with free coffee and a variety of dining options

Flexible work hours
Employee Business Networks

Hybrid work environment (3 days/week onsite)
Distance-based relocation assistance available

How you will make an Impact

Provide technical leadership on comprehensive assessments of resource capacity and energy adequacy for the New England power system.
Develop innovative modeling techniques to integrate emerging supply- and demand-side technologies into probabilistic reliability assessments.
Enhance and evolve ISO New England's resource adequacy models to reflect changing system conditions and regulatory or policy drivers.
Propose and evaluate market design improvements, conduct simulations to quantify impacts, and lead stakeholder discussions to ensure alignment between models and reality.
Lead research on optimal future resource mix development, including:
Formulating multi-objective optimization problems (reliability, cost, emissions, flexibility)
Identifying optimal technology portfolios under varying constraints and uncertainties
Developing analytical frameworks for long-term planning under deep decarbonization scenarios
Identify enhancements and desirable new functionalities for existing reliability, resource, and demand models; collaborate with vendors to implement improvements.
Benchmark and evaluate alternative analytical tools to strengthen resource and energy adequacy assessments.
Assess future system needs-including locational and temporal reliability trends-and evaluate the effectiveness of different technologies in meeting those needs.
Provide technical and project leadership with internal and external stakeholder groups and various regional planning organizations.

What we are looking for

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or related technical field (Master's preferred).
2+ years of experience in power system planning and research, especially in optimization, probabilistic resource and energy adequacy assessments and economic generation production simulations
Strong quantitative and data analysis skills, capable of manipulating extensive and intricate data to identify trends and correlations
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
Desirable qualifications also include:
Direct modeling experience using GE MARS
Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, R, MATLAB, SAS), with a preference for familiarity with Python programming
Knowledge with planning and operational criteria, standards, guidelines of ISO-NE, and reliability entities such as NPCC and NERC
Familiarity with the New England generation and transmission system, planning practices, real-time operational challenges, and system topology
Understanding of New England's wholesale electricity markets
