This is a full-time Field Service Engineer (FSE) position based in Windsor, CT, with local responsibilities and travel time of up to 100%. The FSE supports customer needs by applying strong technical expertise and interpersonal skills to design and implement effective solutions for standard and custom JT Automation designed systems, with a focus on maintenance and continuous improvement. Drawing on mechanical, electrical, and controls engineering principles, the FSE delivers high levels of applied critical thinking and customer service while representing JT Automation’s core values.
Travel to customer sites is required to lead capital equipment installations, perform maintenance activities, and respond to unplanned downtime.
- Travel to customer sites as needed to support JT Automation installations, maintenance, debugging, and service;
same-day travel may be required. - Interpret manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams to diagnose and repair equipment using sound electronics knowledge and test instruments.
- Train with lead engineers to learn the design, operation, and behavior of new and existing systems.
- Provide timely technical support remotely via phone, email, and remote access.
- Serve as a customer-facing technical resource, collaborating with engineers and senior staff to resolve issues.
- Analyze and troubleshoot complex system issues, coordinating corrective actions as needed.
- Manage service tickets per escalation priorities and document all interactions in the ticketing system.
- Produce clear, thorough service reports for internal teams and customers.
- Learn and test new JT Automation equipment prior to shipment. Design preventive maintenance work instructions, templates, and interval schedules for customer systems.
- Apply root cause analysis to identify recurring issues and communicate findings to engineering.
- Participate in on‑call support rotations when required.
- Assist with spare parts inventory management.
- Identify value‑added service or sales opportunities and communicate them to the Service Manager.
- Work closely with customers to ensure needs are clearly understood and met.
- Assist with the design, assembly, and troubleshooting of mechanical systems, including motion systems, tooling, and machine structures, using solid models as references.
- Support the design, assembly, and debugging of electrical panels and enclosures, including component selection, layout, wiring, and schematic feedback.
- Fabricate or modify simple components using standard machine shop equipment.
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and controls engineers to debug system interactions.
- Assist with developing, testing, and debugging control software (e.g., Visual , ladder logic, or similar languages).
- Help specify, assemble, and document pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
- Support component selection, considering cost, availability, and performance.
- Prepare clear, accurate documentation for system design, operation, maintenance, and repair.
- Provide progress updates to management and maintain a clean, organized work environment.
- Travel to vendors or industry conferences as needed for training, information, or product demonstrations.

Desired Qualifications Education & Experience- Associate degree in a technical field (mechanical, electrical/electronics, software, robotics, or related), or equivalent combination of education and experience; bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 2–3 years of experience in mechanical or electrical assembly and/or industrial equipment maintenance.
- Experience with Solid Works (3D modeling, drawings, PDM; simulation a plus) and CAM software preferred.
- Familiarity with programming platforms such as TIA Portal, RSLogix 5000, or similar.
- Experience with electrical schematic software;
Solid Works Electrical preferred.
- Machine shop equipment (knee mill, engine lathe, surface grinder, belt grinder).
- Manual, electric, and pneumatic hand tools.
