Lead Engineer - Grid Operations Technology; Hybrid

The Lead Engineer, Grid Operations Technology will oversee the company’s plans to modernize the design and operation of the electric distribution system, leading multidisciplinary teams through the lifecycle of projects from conception to implementation and performance measurement.

• Assign, prioritize, and review the work of a team of engineers, analysts, vendors, and consultants.
• Lead planning and implementation as subject matter expert for grid modernization programs such as Volt/VAR Optimization (VVO), Fault Location Isolation and Service Restoration (FLISR), Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and other advanced applications.
• Manage all phases of project implementation including technology review, selection, budget, scope, schedule, justification, project management, reporting, tracking, and continuous stakeholder engagement.
• Investigate new and emerging technologies, assess relevance, and coordinate procurement process.
• Communicate grid modernization initiatives externally and participate in industry forums.
• Foster a collaborative, inclusive, high‑performing team culture focused on accountability and continuous improvement.
• Lead and participate in cross‑functional teams with IT, Operations, Engineering, Planning, and external partners.
• Lead design and execution of grid modernization initiatives related to operational technology platforms.

• Thorough understanding of power system engineering concepts such as power flow, voltage regulation, power factor, technical losses, and device coordination.
• Familiarity with modeling electric distribution systems for operations, planning, and forecasting (SCADA, DMS, OMS, power flow).
• Strong analytical, strategic planning, and decision‑making skills.
• Ability to efficiently import and manipulate large datasets from various sources to generate reports and visualizations.
• Minimum eight (8) years in the technical, operational, or engineering aspects of the electrical utility industry.
• Prior supervisory experience preferred.

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology (MS in Engineering or MBA preferred).

Frequent travel throughout the service territory in MA/CT/NH is required. Work is performed primarily in an office environment. The role may require emergency restoration assignments.
