Position Details

JOB TITLE: Residential Counselor

EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Part-time, 16 hours/week

SCHEDULED

HOURS:

Sundays 8a-4p, Mondays into Tuesdays 11p-7a

Mills House, Windsor, CT

ABOUT THE PROGRAM: Mills House is a community-based group home which provides 24 hour staffing and a built in therapeutic component for 5 boys aged 14-21 who have experienced serious emotional and behavioral problems, and who have lived in more restrictive programs or institutions. The home allows the boys to live in a more familial, natural setting within the community. The program emphasizes maximizing each boy's ability to develop skills for living successfully outside of an institutional setting through participation in normative community activities.

ABOUT THE POSITION: Residential Counselor

Responsibilities
  • Maintains physical environment and program standards set by funders, accreditors, and agency policies.
  • Monitor self-administration of client medications in accordance with the agency medication policies and procedures as the program may require.
  • Effectively utilizes appropriate communication methods/tools to collaborate with co-workers and clients.
  • Teaches and assists all residents in areas of developmentally appropriate activities of daily living.
  • Assists/Manages administrative functions and tasks at the direction of the supervisor.
  • Prepares and facilitates educational and skill-building groups and one-to-one intervention as directed by the treatment plan.
  • Collaborates and coordinates care with providers and families as needed.
  • Assists residents in addressing medical and psychiatric needs.
  • Maintains documentation in compliance with agency and program standards.
  • Participates in staff meetings, supervision, trainings, and other meetings as assigned.
  • Additional duties as required.
Qualifications

Experience: Two years’ experience working with a relevant population preferred.

Licensure/Certification/Registration: Valid driver’s license required with good driving record.

Compensation & Benefits

COMPENSATION*: Starting at $17.00/hr min., and up commensurate upon experience. Actual rates are determined at the time of offer and are based off relevant experience, as well as adherence to our internal equity policy. Many positions offer program/location differentials and/or sign-on incentives. (Part-time pro-rated based on hours worked)
