Industrial Painter Company Overview

High Plains Steel Services is a steel construction and fabrication company built on craftsmanship, safety, and long‑term relationships. We take pride in delivering steel structures and components that stand the test of time and reflect the skill of the people who built them.

Our core values guide everything we do:
Give a Damn, Build Trust, Stand Behind the Work. We believe in doing things the right way, looking out for each other, and helping every team member grow their skills and career. This is more than steel. This is legacy work.

The Opportunity

We are hiring an Industrial Painter to ensure every steel surface we deliver is safe, compliant, and finished to the highest standards. In this role, your grit, attention to detail, and pride in your craft will be visible on every project long after the job is done.

You will join a crew that respects effort, rewards precision, and backs you up every time. You will be supported with training, certifications, and quality tools so you can do work you are proud to sign your name to and continue advancing as a professional industrial painter.

What You’ll Do
  • Prepare steel surfaces to specification using abrasive blasting and proper masking techniques, meeting AMPP, NACE, and SSPC standards and recording profile data before coating.
  • Mix and apply coatings such as primers and sealers using sprayers or rollers, verifying dry film thickness (DFT), documenting batch numbers, and ensuring clean, even finishes.
  • Lead by example in safety by following all safety protocols, attending daily briefings, using lockout/tagout procedures, and wearing full PPE, including respirators and suits, even in extreme conditions.
  • Collaborate with QC inspectors and foremen to complete detailed reports, identify and correct surface or coating issues, and ensure each project meets quality requirements before final sign‑off.
  • Maintain, clean, and organize painting and blasting equipment to reduce downtime, extend tool life, and keep the work area safe and efficient.
What Success Looks Like
  • Within your first months, you consistently prepare and coat steel to AMPP, NACE, and SSPC standards with minimal rework and accurate documentation of profiles, DFT, and batch data.
  • You establish a reputation for safe work habits, full PPE compliance, and active participation in safety briefings and procedures in all weather and site conditions.
  • Foremen and QC inspectors trust your judgment and communication, relying on you to flag issues early, solve problems on the spot, and deliver work that passes inspection the first time.
  • You take advantage of training opportunities, progress toward relevant certifications, and become a go-to team member who helps others raise their game in surface prep, coating, and safety.
What We’re Looking For
  • At least 1 year of experience with steel coating and profiling, including familiarity with AMPP, NACE, and SSPC standards.
  • Physical ability to work 10–12 hour shifts, often outdoors and in full PPE, including respirators and protective suits, and willingness to work in all weather.
  • Strong ownership mindset: reliable attendance, attention to detail, clear communication in English, and the ability to see what needs to be done and get after it without micromanagement.
  • Eligibility to work in the U.S., ability to pass a respirator medical clearance and vision test, and an eagerness to learn, teach, and contribute to a team that stands behind its work.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Hourly wage of $25 to $30 per hour, based on experience and skill.
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage; paid certifications and safety training, including AMPP Industrial Coating Application Certificate, ASTM‑D4228 Coating Applicator Qualification, forklift operator certification, and safety programs.
  • Full‑time employment.
  • 10–12 hour shifts with opportunities for overtime, plus paid time off, holidays, a 401(k) with company match after 1 year, and a strong safety culture with zero tolerance for unsafe conditions.
