Position: Registered Nurse Medical Surgical Intermediate Full time Nights

Salary

The salary range for this position is $34.50 - $55.20 per hour, with placement dependent on relevant work experience, internal equity, and collective bargaining agreement rules for union‑represented positions.

Shift

Full time nights 7:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m. with rotating weekends.

Unit
  • 26‑bed, fast‑paced, high‑acuity intermediate medical‑surgical unit
  • Highly engaged staff actively participate in shared governance and multidisciplinary rounds at the bedside
Role Overview

The staff nurse in inpatient care reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine, adheres to the organization’s code of ethics and corporate compliance program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and accreditation standards.

A clinically competent, registered professional nurse who prescribes, delegates, and coordinates nursing care for acutely ill patients through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. This role effectively interacts with patients, significant others, and other health team members while maintaining ANA standards of professional nursing practice.

Responsibilities
  • Collect and analyze data, identify expected outcomes, develop and implement individualized care plans, coordinate care delivery, and evaluate progress toward outcomes.
  • Direct patient care and determine the appropriate utilization of assistants involved in direct patient care.
  • Collaborate with patients, families, physicians, and ancillary staff to create documented plans focused on outcomes and decisions related to service delivery and communication.
  • Participate in shared governance, committee work, and unit projects.
  • Evaluate and document patient responses to nursing interventions in the health record and adjust the plan of care accordingly.
  • Utilize the best available evidence, including research findings, to guide practice decisions.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Current State of Illinois Registered Professional Nurse
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to collaborate with others
  • Strong analytic abilities
  • Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) acceptable with a commitment to obtain a BSN from an accredited program within three years of first day of employment in a clinical nurse role.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a specific clinical area, especially Emergency Room or Pediatric Emergency Room settings
  • Trauma Nurse Specialist (TNS)
  • Emergency Communications Registered Nurse
  • Certified Pediatric Nurse
  • Certified Emergency Nurse
