General Summary
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works within the multidisciplinary clinical team to provide individualized patient care through history and physical assessment, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, medication ordering, prescribing and management, formulating diagnoses and patient/family education. They promote evidence-based practice by conducting or participating in research and academic activities. The APP supports colleagues and staff to promote professional development of the advanced practice profession at Lurie Children’s and in the community‑at‑large.
EssentialJob Functions
- Provides expert clinical care, education, consultation, advocacy research, leadership and mentorship.
- Manages primary, acute and chronic health problems through comprehensive history and physical examination, assessment and diagnosis.
- Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests and procedures.
- Orders and prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions and performs other therapeutic or corrective measures.
- Promotes the advancement of the profession at Lurie Children’s and the community‑at‑large through publication, participation in professional organizations and educational support to nursing staff.
- Collaborates and coordinates care with the medical team to deliver evidence-based care and establish best practices.
- Participates in research design, implementation and interpretation.
- Meets the Medical Staffs Allied Health Practitioners core measures of performance related to patient care, medical knowledge, practice-based learning and improvement, interpersonal communication skills, professionalism and system-based practice.
- Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to patients, families, co‑workers and others.
- Role may include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
Skills and Abilities
- Master’s degree or higher from an accredited school appropriate for certification as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
- Two (2) years of relevant clinical experience preferred.
- Licensure in the State of Illinois as an APRN or PA required.
- Clinical privileges through credentialing by the Medical Staff Office achieved within 90 days of hire.
- Basic Life Support certification required.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification and/or other specialty certification required in some areas within 6 months of employment.
- Exemplary interpersonal skills, basic computer skills, and strong verbal and written communication skills.
Education:
Master’s Degree – Nurse Practitioner (Required).
