Job Description
Full‑time day shift 7:00 am – 7:30 pm with rotating weekends.
Position:
Staff Nurse – Inpatient, Neuro Intermediate (3B).
Unit: 24‑bed neurosciences unit providing care to patients requiring medical and surgical treatment of acute neurological and spine disorders. Neurological conditions include acute and stable traumatic brain injury, subarachnoid hemorrhage, stroke, spinal injury, seizure, and acute inflammation or infections of the CNS. Neurosurgical patients include aneurysm repair, CS leaks & lumbar drains, post‑op neurosurgical and spinal patients.
Responsibilities- Collect and analyze data, identify expected outcomes, develop and implement an individualized plan, coordinate care delivery and evaluate progress toward attainment of outcomes.
- Direct patient care and determine the appropriate utilization of any assistants involved in providing direct patient care.
- Collaborate with patient, family, physicians and ancillary staff. Create a documented plan focused on outcomes and decisions related to the care and delivery of services that indicates communications with patients, families, and others.
- Participate in shared governance, committee work, and unit projects.
- Evaluate and document the patient’s responses to nursing interventions in the health record and properly individualize the plan of care based on the evaluation of findings.
- Utilize the best available evidence, including research findings, to guide practice decisions.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Current State of Illinois Registered Professional Nurse
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to collaborate with others
- Strong analytic abilities
- Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) acceptable with commitment to obtain a BSN from an accredited program within three years of first day of employment in a clinical nurse role.
- Experience in a specific clinical area
- Additional preferences for the Emergency Room and the Pediatric Emergency Room
- Trauma Nurse Specialist (TNS)
- Emergency Communications Registered Nurse
- Certified Pediatric Nurse
- Certified Emergency Nurse
