Compensation

The salary range for this position is $34.50 - $55.20 hourly. Placement within the salary range depends on relevant work experience and internal equity. For positions represented by a labor union, placement is guided by the collective bargaining agreement.

Description

Full‑time nights, 7:00 pm–7:30 am with rotating weekends. Shift on CDH Neuro Intermediate (3B) – a 24‑bed neurosciences unit providing care to patients with acute neurological and spinal disorders. Neurological conditions include traumatic brain injury, subarachnoid hemorrhage, stroke, spinal injury, seizure, and infections of the CNS. Neurosurgical patients include aneurysm repair, CS leaks, lumbar drains, and post‑operative neurosurgical and spinal patients.

The Staff Nurse – Inpatient reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine, adheres to the Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, regulatory, and accreditation standards.

A clinically competent, registered professional nurse who prescribes, delegates and coordinates nursing care to the acutely ill patient through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation and evaluation. Interacts effectively with patients, significant others, and other health team members while maintaining ANA standards of professional nursing practice.

Responsibilities
  • Collects and analyzes data, identifies expected outcomes, develops and implements individualized plans, coordinates care delivery and evaluates progress toward attainment of outcomes.
  • Directs care and determines appropriate utilization of assistants involved in direct patient care.
  • Collaborates with patients, families, physicians and ancillary staff; documents plans focused on outcomes and decisions related to care and delivery of services.
  • Participates in shared governance, committee work, and unit projects.
  • Evaluates and documents the patient’s responses to nursing interventions in the health record and appropriately individualizes the plan of care based on evaluation of findings.
  • Utilizes the best available evidence, including research findings, to guide practice decisions.
Qualifications (Required)
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Current State of Illinois Registered Professional Nurse
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to collaborate with others
  • Strong analytic abilities
  • Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) acceptable with commitment to obtain a BSN from an accredited program within three years of first day of employment in a clinical nurse role.

  • Experience in a specific clinical area
  • Additional preferences for the Emergency Room and Pediatric Emergency Room
  • Trauma Nurse Specialist (TNS)
  • Emergency Communications Registered Nurse
  • Certified Pediatric Nurse
