Unit DetailsCDH Cardiac Intermediate (3A) – 26-bed cardiac step‑down unit part of Northwestern Medicine’s Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute (BCVI). The unit cares for patients with cardiovascular diagnoses including post‑cardiac surgeries and procedures. Cross training opportunities to the Telemetry Department. Designated in the country’s top decile for patient satisfaction.
Responsibilities- Collect and analyze data, identify expected outcomes, develop and implement an individualized plan, coordinate care delivery and evaluate progress toward outcomes.
- Direct care and determine appropriate utilization of assistants involved in providing direct patient care.
- Collaborate with patient, family, physicians, and ancillary staff to create documented plans focused on outcomes and decisions related to care delivery.
- Participate in shared governance, committee work, and unit projects.
- Evaluate and document patient responses to nursing interventions in the health record and adapt the plan of care based on findings.
- Utilize the best available evidence, including research findings, to guide practice decisions.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Current State of Illinois Registered Professional Nurse.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to collaborate with others, and strong analytic abilities.
* Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) acceptable with a commitment to obtain a BSN within three years of first day of employment.
Preferred- Experience in specific clinical area.
- Additional preference for Emergency Room and Pediatric Emergency Room.
- Trauma Nurse Specialist (TNS).
- Emergency Communications Registered Nurse.
- Certified Pediatric Nurse.
- Certified Emergency Nurse.
