Job Overview

Staff Nurse – Intermediary Unit (Weekender part time, Days 7am-7:30pm) Unit: 26‑bed fast‑paced, high acuity Intermediate Medical/Surgical Unit. The role reflects the mission, vision and values of Northwestern Medicine and adheres to all relevant policies, procedures and accreditation standards.

• Prescribe, delegate and coordinate nursing care to acutely ill patients through assessment, planning, intervention, implementation and evaluation.
• Interact effectively with patients, significant others and health team members while maintaining ANA standards of professional nursing practice.
• Collect and analyze data, identify expected outcomes, develop and implement individualized plans, coordinate care delivery and evaluate progress toward outcomes.
• Direct care and determine appropriate utilization of assistants involved in direct patient care.
• Collaborate with patients, families, physicians and ancillary staff, documenting a plan focused on outcomes and decisions related to care and delivery of services.
• Participate in shared governance, committee work and unit projects.
• Evaluate and document the patient’s responses to nursing interventions in the health record, individualizing the plan of care based on findings.
• Utilize best available evidence, including research findings, to guide practice decisions.

• Required
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Current State of Illinois Registered Professional Nurse
  • Basic Life Support
  • Strong interpersonal, collaboration and analytic abilities
  • Additional requirements for Emergency Room: ACLS, PALS/ENPC & TNCC within one year of hire
  • Additional requirements for Pediatric Emergency Room:
    Pediatric Advanced Life Support, TNCC within one year of hire
• Preferred
  • Experience in specific clinical area
  • Trauma Nurse Specialist (TNS)
  • Emergency Communications Registered Nurse
  • Certified Pediatric Nurse
  • Certified Emergency Nurse
  • Additional preferences for Emergency and Pediatric Emergency Rooms as noted above
