Overview
This position is located in Winnemucca and serves as an entry-level Engineering Technician, field level construction support. The incumbent performs inspections, testing, surveying, and verifies contractor quantities for prompt payment.
Responsibilities- Assist engineers in field and laboratory tests; set up equipment, gather and analyze data to ensure accuracy and conformity to policies.
- Coordinate with contractors, agency staff, and the public regarding water rights, bid documents, contracts, plans, specifications, and federal and state guidelines.
- Conduct technical research to ensure department programs and testing methods comply with federal and state requirements; review and interpret technical documents.
- Maintain records and contract documents, enter data into computer systems, and verify completeness and clarity of applications and technical reports.
- Perform field inspections of construction projects, well locations, water usage, material equipment, property lines, boundaries, right‑of‑way mapping, and safety barriers; interpret plans and make recommendations.
- Prepare drafting assignments, maps, charts, graphs, tables, slopes, and contours for construction projects and right‑of‑way location.
- Conduct surveying work including staking alignments, fences, cross sections, and establishing control points, wells, and property boundaries.
- Perform material and soil testing in a laboratory setting and research material properties and testing procedures.
- Maintain and calibrate equipment, manage inventories, and document calibration results and repairs.
- Research city, county, and federal records to determine property ownership and title status.
- Perform calculations for survey boundaries, slopes, contours, alignments, traverses, construction limits, and material quantities.
- Carry out related duties as assigned.
- High school graduation or equivalent education.
- At least one year of experience involving public contact, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Under close supervision, progress to the next level upon meeting minimum qualifications, satisfactory performance, and appointment authority approval.
Personal computers and related ancillary equipment.
SkillsMathematics including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
