Job Description

Reporting to the Control Room Supervisor, the Command Builder is the hands‑on implementer of the mine model within CAT Mine Star Command for Hauling, and provides support to the Command Controllers and pit technicians.

The Builder keeps the mine model up to date and maintains its integrity, so that the virtual road network in the system replicates the physical road network on the ground. The Builder prepares and manages dynamic mining areas so they are ready and available for autonomous operation, and troubleshoots assignment, onboard and communications issues as they come up.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain a clean, functional mine model that reflects current field conditions.
  • Build and validate zones, lock areas, waypoints and surfaces.
  • Conduct model audits and clean up legacy logic at the start of shift.
  • Ensure the mine model is up to date and proactively manage it for new and prospective mining areas.
  • Maintain the integrity of the mine model by ensuring the virtual road network replicates the physical road network.
  • Tune zones and assignments for tool (shovel) movements, dump shifts and weather.
  • Apply speed, traction and Narrow Area Planning logic as needed.
  • Manage onboard files and zone‑based configuration updates.
  • Support the Command Controllers with troubleshooting and logic issues, and elevate issues that cannot be resolved.
  • Maximize equipment productivity and efficiency in accordance with the 24-hour mine and maintenance plan.
Job Requirements
  • Set the workplace health and safety culture within control operations.
  • Comply with and adhere to all company policies, regulations and procedures.
  • Report autonomy-related incidents as soon as practicable.
  • Participate in safety enquiries, safety meetings, workplace inspections and site safety programs as required.
  • Never release a model to the live system that is not reconciled to as-built survey.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; a diploma or degree in mine engineering, robotics, surveying or autonomous systems is an asset.
  • 3 or more years in an open-pit mining or autonomous operations environment.
  • Experience with fleet-management systems such as CAT Mine Star, Modular or similar.
  • Strong spatial and survey literacy, able to read design, as-built and GNSS control and reconcile them.
  • Action-oriented, with strong organisational and priority‑setting skills; able to work under pressure.
Preferred / Competency Requirements
  • Previous exposure to autonomous mining systems (highly desirable).
  • Advanced computer literacy and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Sound knowledge of open-pit mining fundamentals and autonomous mining operations.
  • Experience configuring a greenfield AOZ from first principles.

This role operates on a shift‑based schedule, requiring coordination during both day and night shifts.
