Job Summary:A high-functioning Critical Access Hospital (CAH) in rural Nevada, is seeking a versatile ICU-experienced RN. This role is unique as the Medical-Surgical and ICU departments are integrated into a single unit, with a central nurses' station overseeing both areas. You will manage a diverse patient population ranging from standard medical-surgical cases to high-acuity ICU patients requiring titration of life-sustaining drips.
Key Responsibilities- Dual-Unit Care: Manage a mixed assignment that may include ICU, Med-Surg, Telemetry, and Swing Bed (Skilled/Acute Rehab) patients.
- Acuity Management: Titrate critical drips (Blood Pressure, Insulin, Cardiac) and manage Comfort Care patients with Morphine/Versed infusions.
- Cardiac Monitoring: Independently interpret cardiac rhythms using Mindray monitoring systems; there are no dedicated monitor technicians.
- Respiratory Collaboration: Work alongside Respiratory Therapy (RT) to manage equipment like CPAP, BiPAP, High-Flow, and Ventilators. RNs may provide respiratory treatments during emergencies.
- Interdisciplinary Support: Collaborate with on-site 24/7 Hospitalists and Case Managers to facilitate care plans and patient discharges.
- Experience: Minimum 1 year of nursing experience. Mandatory ICU experience and experience in a similar-sized Critical Access facility are required.
- Preferred Experience: Pediatric nursing and NIHSS certification.
- Licensure: Active Nevada State RN License required at submission.
- Certifications: * BLS (AHA)
- ACLS (AHA)
- PALS (AHA)
- First-Time Travelers: Accepted and welcomed at this facility.
- Bed Capacity: 16 Med-Surg beds and 3 ICU beds.
- Patient Ratios: * Med-Surg: 1:4–6 (depending on acuity).
- ICU: 1:1–3 (depending on acuity).
- Support Staff: Typically staffed with a CNA and either a Unit Clerk or a second CNA.
- Floating: Primary unit is MS/ICU, but you may be asked to assist as a "helping hand" in the ER, OB, or Long-Term Care (LTC) units.
- EMR: Cerner (Experience preferred).
- Scrub Color: Navy Blue for RNs.
Winnemucca is a historic rural town in Northern Nevada, offering a rugged charm and proximity to outdoor recreation.
- Housing Requirement: Candidates must confirm they have researched local housing at the time of submittal. The facility provides leads, but secured housing is the traveler's responsibility.
- Local Amenities: The hospital is located at 118 E Haskell St. Nearby conveniences include a Walmart, local cafes, and the Humboldt River.
- Self-Scheduling: Follows guidelines in 4-week blocks; block scheduling is considered but not guaranteed.
- Weekends: 3 weekend shifts required per 4-week schedule.
- Holidays: One major and one minor holiday per season.
- On-Call: Census-based; typically offered as an extra shift or employee choice.
