Overview
DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR III is a senior technical role responsible for the architecture, reliability, optimization, and strategic evolution of Mine Resource Management (MRM) data systems supporting geology and geotechnical functions across Nevada Gold Mines (NGM).
This role serves as a technical authority and mentor, leading complex database initiatives, defining standards, and ensuring high availability, performance, data integrity, and security of mission-critical systems. Work assignments are advanced and require independent judgment, deep technical expertise, cross-functional collaboration, and leadership in resolving highly complex problems.

Responsibilities- Champion personal safety and actively promote a strong safety culture
- Provide senior-level database administration support for mission-critical geology and geotechnical systems
- Design, implement, and optimize enterprise-scale SQL Server database architectures
- Develop, review, and optimize advanced T-SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and indexing strategies
- Establish and enforce data governance, quality, security, and access control standards
- Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for relational database technologies and data integration
- Lead troubleshooting and resolution of complex performance, availability, and data consistency issues
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior database administrators and analysts
- Collaborate with stakeholders across geology, engineering, IT, and analytics teams
- Drive innovation by identifying and implementing improvements to database performance, scalability, and reliability
- Maintain strict confidentiality and security of sensitive and proprietary data
- Perform other duties as required; responsibilities listed are not all-inclusive
- Architect, administer, and maintain MRM databases including assay, geological, geotechnical, spatial, and historical datasets
- Ensure high availability, disaster recovery, backup, and restore strategies are documented, tested, and enforced
- Lead data integrity assurance efforts for all mission-critical departmental systems
- Oversee and support data imports, exports, and integrations with internal and external systems
- Partner with application developers to ensure databases are optimized for performance, scalability, and long-term sustainability
- Review and approve database designs, schema changes, and deployment strategies
- Install, test, validate, and upgrade database platforms and supporting applications
- Maintain and evolve technical documentation, data models, and operational standards
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on standardization, automation, and modernization
- Develop and maintain enterprise digital archival systems for primary geology and geotechnical data
- Design and maintain advanced analytical and reporting frameworks, including SharePoint and real-time dashboards
- Integrate SQL databases with analytics platforms, visualization tools, and external applications
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend solutions aligned with business needs and operational risk posture
- Bachelors degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Database Management, or a related field OR equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum of 7 years progressive experience in database administration, data management, or software development
- Expert-level proficiency in SQL and relational database design
- Strong understanding of performance tuning, security, disaster recovery, and high-availability database solutions
- Proven ability to independently lead complex technical initiatives
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Advanced experience with Microsoft SQL Server in enterprise environments
- Programming experience in C#, .NET (web-based), JavaScript, Python, and/or Visual Studio
- Experience with ac Quire or similar geological data management systems
- Mining or geology domain knowledge
- Experience supporting analytics platforms, reporting tools, and data visualization solutions
