Recon Healthcare Services is currently looking for Part-Time Registered Nurses for correctional health care at the Humboldt County Detention Facility located in Winnemucca, Nevada. This role offers a competitive starting salary, benefits, and an independent work environment. Experience in correctional health care is preferred but not required. Training will be provided. The position requires passing a fingerprint-based background check and holding a valid RN license in the State of Nevada.

Correctional nursing involves treating incarcerated patients in facilities like jails and juvenile detention centers. Correctional nurses perform many of the same tasks as nurses in traditional medical settings, with a level of independence and access to supplies that may be more limited. The role focuses on assessing, diagnosing, and treating inmates while maintaining safety and security in the facility.
Qualifications- Graduate of a state-approved school of practical (vocational) nursing and currently licensed in the state(s) practicing.
- Two (2) years of nursing experience is preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Compassionate and able to handle stress.
- Ability to undertake a variety of diverse care tasks and work in a multidisciplinary team.
- Familiarity with hospital health, safety and sanitation standards and procedures.
- Understanding of confidentiality obligations and nursing best practices.
- Maintain proper safety procedures and monitor medical supplies (e.g., needles and medication).
- Limit the use of potentially dangerous materials and manage medications as part of patient care.
- Monitor patients' progress and responses to treatments and administer medications.
- Document patient medical histories and maintain health records.
- Intake Screening: Screen inmates entering the facility for immediate medical and mental health needs and coordinate housing placement and ongoing health visit planning.
- Chronic Care Clinic: Schedule and manage regular visits for chronic conditions and provide patient education and medication compliance review.
- Medication Administration: Administer medications through a medication pass or pill line, with nursing staff administering in the medical unit or housing unit as appropriate.
- Nursing Sick Call: Provide episodic health care services through a Sick Call system; treat simple conditions and arrange follow-up with a physician or advanced practitioner as needed.
- Ability to participate in physical activity.
- Ability to work for extended periods of time while standing and being involved in physical activity.
- Ability to perform lifting.
- Ability to do extensive bending, lifting and standing on a regular basis.
