TASK LETTER CODE PRIMARY DUTIES(Are the essential job tasks or primary responsibilities that the individual who holds the position must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of an accommodation. For example: “DO” (action verb) + “WHAT” (object) – “Collects vitals from patients at the beginning of the visit according to clinic protocol”.% OF TIME PERFORMING DUTYADemonstrates clinical competency in medical/surgical and critical care.
BSupports the hospital medication administration competency programs, and seeks professional growth through continuing education, and/or advanced professional certifications (RNC, CCRN, etc.)CDemonstrates appropriate judgment in notifying/communicating with physicians.
DAdmits/discharges patients to the med/surg department according to department/hospital policy.
EAssists physicians with examinations, procedures and other processes related to direct patient care.
FUtilizes techniques of infection control, including proper hand washing and observing standard precautions when starting IV’s, or as circumstances warrant.
GProvides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.
HPerforms competently during emergency, busy or otherwise stressful situations in the med/surg department.
ICompetently directs, supervises and delegates activities of licensed and ancillary staff assigned to the med/surg/ICU unit.
JDocuments patient care and procedures/interventions accurately and thoroughly in accordance with hospital standards.
KConsistently monitors and/or oversees the monitoring of the telemetry station.
LConsistently makes rounds with the physicians and nursing staff.
MMonitors the medical condition of patients and reports changes to appropriate personnel.
NPrepares, administers and records medications with knowledge and understanding in accordance with policy and procedure.
OPerforms preoperative, postoperative, and relevant health teaching for patients and families.
PResponsible for informing nurse manager of nursing activities, needs, problems and unusual events.
QDemonstrates technical competency through annual equipment certification, attending manufacturers’ sponsored in-services, and additional training as requiredRMaintains knowledge of regulatory standards.
SDemonstrates skill and accuracy in hospital computer application.
TActively participates in the review of policies and procedures for the med/surg department annually.
USupports the department by attending and constructively contributing to staff or other meetings as able/necessary.
VAccepts the need to float when staffing dictates.
WMaintains a clean, organized and safe working environment in both patient care areas and the nursing station.
XParticipates in ordering, stocking and inventory of departmental supplies to ensure appropriate items are readily available for patient care needs.
YMaintains confidentiality of all patient/staff information.
ZOther related duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM EDUCATION:
High school diploma or equivalent
Completion of an accredited school of nursing
PREFERRED EDUCATION:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing-BSN or higher REQUIRED
CERTIFICATIONS:
Active Nevada Registered Nursing license or Interim Permit from Nevada State Board of Nursing Current BLSACLS certification within 6 months of employment PALS certification within 6 months of employment
Procedural sedation course within one year of employment PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:
Specialty Nursing Certification in area of practice.
SPECIAL
SKILLS:
Able to read, write and speak the English language in an understandable manner.
Ability and willingness to work harmoniously with professional and non-professional personnel.
Able to communicate clearly and tactfully with patients, their families, and co-workers.
Must be a role model of a professional nurse.
SUPERVISES:
Support personnel assigned to the unit.
