POSITION SUMMARY
Provides basic nursing care to patients in the medical-surgical, telemetry, intensive care and pediatric unit according to established standards and practices. Functions under the direct supervision of a nurse.
PRIMARY DUTIES- A:
Provides patient’s personal hygiene, assists with bedpans, urinals, backrubs, shampoos, shaves, oral care, showers, etc. - B:
Provides and assists with ADLs: assists with meals and feeds patients, ambulates, turns and positions patients, provides fresh water and nourishment between meals. - C:
Competently takes vital signs on adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients. - D:
Performs competently during emergency, busy or otherwise stressful situations in the department. - E:
Competently performs nursing aide procedures and patient care under the direction of a RN/LPN. - F:
Prepares patient rooms for admission. - G:
Utilizes techniques of infection control, including proper hand washing and handling of linen, according to standard precautions. - H:
Promptly answers patient call lights and requests. - I:
Consistently obtains patient weight on admission and as ordered. - J:
Collects specimens as requested. - K:
Communicates pertinent information regarding changes in patient condition to the responsible RN/LPN. - L:
Consistently functions within scope of practice for a Certified Nursing Assistant. - M:
Completes patient charges appropriately. - N:
Records all entries in EHR, documents in an informative and complete manner. - O:
Demonstrates skill and accuracy in hospital computer application. - P:
Documents patient care and procedures/interventions accurately and thoroughly in accordance with hospital standards. - Q:
Consistently records I & O. - R:
Accepts the need to float when staffing dictates. - S:
Supports the department by attending and constructively contributing to staff or other meetings as able/necessary. - T:
Attends 75% of Staff Meetings. - U:
Responsible for informing nurse managers of nursing activities, needs, problems, and unusual events. - V:
Participates in stocking, sorting, and inventory of departmental supplies to ensure appropriate items are readily available for patient care needs. - W:
Maintains a clean, organized and safe working environment in both patient care and clerical areas. - X:
As a member of the health team will maintain harmonious relationships with unit and co-workers providing support and assistance to co-workers to ensure quality patient care. - Y:
Communicates clearly and tactfully with residents and families. - Z:
Maintains confidentiality of all patient/resident/staff information. - AA:
Other related duties as assigned.
- MINIMUM EDUCATION:
High school diploma or equivalent;
Successful completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant course. - MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
Must be able to read, write, and speak English language in an understandable manner;
Basic knowledge of medical terminology;
Basic computer knowledge and skills. - REQUIRED
CERTIFICATIONS:
BLS certification;
Active Nevada Certified Nursing Assistant License. - SPECIAL
SKILLS:
Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such;
Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, patients, family, visitors, and the public;
Ability and willingness to work harmoniously with professional and non-professional personnel. - SUPERVISES:
