Reporting to the Safety Manager, the Supervisor will enforce compliance, promote a strong safety culture, and drive continuous improvement across the plant’s sulfuric acid and clay beneficiation processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise Safety Specialists, providing guidance, task delegation, performance feedback, and professional development support.
  • Partner with the Safety Manager to implement site‑level safety programs aligned with LAC‑wide standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Represent the Safety Manager on site in their absence.
  • Collaborate with operations supervisors, contractors, and department leads to proactively identify and mitigate hazards before work begins.
  • Chair or facilitate daily and weekly safety meetings, toolbox talks, and pre‑task planning sessions with frontline teams.
  • Ensure day‑to‑day site compliance with MSHA and OSHA requirements; coordinate with the Safety Manager on regulatory strategy and agency interactions.
  • Manage the site Safe Work Permit system and conduct regular safety walk‑throughs, inspections, and audits of facilities, equipment, and emergency systems.
  • Support the Safety Manager in maintaining required safety compliance documentation, records, and regulatory submissions.
  • Coordinate with operations teams to ensure compliance with OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) program requirements.
  • Develop, schedule, and deliver required MSHA/OSHA training for employees, contractors, and visitors; maintain training records.
  • Coordinate and oversee onboarding safety orientation for new employees, contractors, and site visitors.
  • Conduct hazard assessments for new chemicals, processes, and tasks introduced to the site.
  • Support the site industrial hygiene program and coordinate occupational exposure monitoring activities.
  • Oversee PPE and lockout/tagout equipment programs.
  • Lead timely investigation of incidents and near‑misses, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain and report on safety performance metrics and leading indicators; report trends to the Safety Manager.
  • Actively participate in the site Safety Committee and support broader safety culture initiatives.
  • Drive continuous improvement projects to enhance safety performance and reduce risk exposure.
  • Participate in internal audit programs and support corrective action plans.
  • Support development and maintenance of the Site Emergency Response Plan; serve as an on‑site emergency coordinator during incidents.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships across all teams while championing the company’s Purpose, Vision, and Values.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, science, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive safety experience in chemical, mining, mineral processing, or oil and gas industries, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead safety role.
  • Working knowledge of U.S. and Nevada OSHA and/or MSHA regulations; experience in an OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) facility is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and develop safety personnel and work effectively with frontline operations teams.
