In this role, you will maintain a large fleet of motorcoaches, supporting the transportation of workers to and from job sites for a large-scale mining operation.
Job Summary:The Class A Maintenance Repair Technician diagnoses and repairs buses specifically concentrating on major complicated/complex problems and inspections. Class A Technician must be proficient and able to perform all aspects of the B and C mechanic positions. STA encourages all Class A Technicians to seek and maintain Master ASE certification. All work performed must be of the highest quality ensuring vehicles are reliable and safe.

Diagnoses and repairs various bus systems as assigned
- Diagnoses and repairs buses specifically concentrating on major complicated/complex problems including engine, transmission, electrical and mechanical defects
- Performs upgrades and/or modifications on bus systems and equipment
- Cleans, repairs, and replaces bus equipment as required
- Research bus systems and special manufacturing characteristics for all buses
- Performs both in-house and road call bus repairs using various hand, power, pneumatic, machine (precision) and machinery tools
- Tests buses for proper working order
- Completely document all work performed in RTA Software
- Utilize CMMS when diagnosing trends in parts usage and labor cost relating to vehicle performance to ensure repairs are completed properly.
- Repairing vehicles require physical dexterity and exertion and heavy lifting
- Answers questions and assist by offering professional information.
- When B or C class technicians are assigned to work with A class technicians the A class technicians are to provide support pertaining to diagnosing and operational theory for specific job and/or task when appropriate
- Work with OEMs on upgrades and campaigns on vehicles
- Installs, equips and or modifies buses as requested
- Tracks and reports information concerning performance as required
- Adjusts upgrade and/or modification on bus system as required
- Perform inspections on all types of buses and repairs systems/parts when needed
- Uses preventive maintenance check list to verify performance
- Repairs and inspections involve the engine, battery, lights, gauges and controls, sensitive edges, safety equipment, all interior components, transmissions, tires, breaks, undercarriage, power steering, fluids and filters and all other electrical and mechanical bus components
- Must be thoroughly familiar with all safety provisions associated with vehicle maintenance
- Full understanding of OSHA standards and provisions
- Understands and conforms to State EPA regulations regarding disposal of toxic waste substances
- Performs other duties as required
- Essential Functions:
- Must have a complete understanding of the design, vehicle electronics, overhaul knowledge for transmissions and heavy‑duty engines, as well as other bus components
- Must be able to work with diagnostic equipment
- Must be able to work amid constant interruptions and be able to prioritize and deal with time pressures
- Must have good communication skills to be able to give directions, moderate contact with others inside the organization; works mainly with Maintenance staff and with Bus Operators. Work occasionally with Training, Safety, Dispatch and Purchasing. Moderate contact with others outside the organization; works with OEMs and vendors occasionally.
- Must have an in‑depth understanding of regulations effecting mechanics and maintenance operations
- Must be autonomous and be self directed. Must have basic math abilities in order to analyze and track maintenance information
