Maintenance & Construction Technician

Location:

Winnemucca, NV Job Type: Full-Time Pay: $27–$31/hr. depending on experience and demonstrated skills

About the Role

Iron Horse is building a new bulk material transload facility in Winnemucca, Nevada, and we're looking for a hands-on Maintenance & Construction Technician to immediately assist with current construction demands as well as potentially support the long term operation and maintenance of the facility.

This is a unique opportunity for someone who likes to build things, fix things, operate equipment, and figure things out.

During construction, you'll support the day-to-day needs of the project—helping install equipment, move materials, operate equipment, perform repairs, assist contractors, and tackle whatever needs to be done to keep the project moving.

As the facility becomes operational, the role will transition into facility maintenance and/or facility operations, based on your skills and the needs of the operation.

You don't need to know every trade. We need someone who is mechanically capable, resourceful, dependable, and willing to learn.

What You'll Do
  • Support construction, installation, and setup of the new facility and equipment.
  • Assist contractors and other trades working on the project.
  • Operate forklifts, skid steers, trackhoes, lifts, and other equipment as qualified.
  • Move and stage materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Assemble pre-build systems such as sub-grade conduit, vaults, and concrete pads.
  • Perform basic survey needs such as elevation determinations, and utility placements.
  • Perform mechanical repairs, equipment maintenance, and general facility repairs.
  • Perform basic welding, cutting, fabrication, and repair work.
  • Assist with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and other installation work within your training and qualifications.
  • Maintain and repair equipment, machinery, and facility systems as the site becomes operational.
  • Keep work areas clean, organized, and safe.
  • Work independently and prioritize tasks based on safety and operational needs.
What We're Looking For

The most important qualification is the ability to figure things out.

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has strong mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving skills.
  • Is comfortable using hand tools, power tools, and can operate a variety of construction equipment.
  • Can diagnose problems rather than simply replace parts.
  • Can work independently with limited supervision.
  • Is comfortable performing a wide variety of tasks.
  • Takes pride in quality work and puts safety first.
  • Is dependable, adaptable, and willing to learn.
Experience We Value

Experience in any of the following is highly relevant:

  • Construction
  • Facility maintenance
  • Diesel or automotive mechanics
  • Heavy equipment operation
  • Concrete form setting & finishing
  • Industrial maintenance
  • Agricultural equipment repair
  • Welding and fabrication
  • Millwright or mechanical work
  • Electrical or plumbing
  • Equipment installation

You do not need experience in every area listed above. A mechanically capable person with a broad construction or equipment background may be an excellent fit.

Preferred Skills

The following are a plus:

  • Diesel or gasoline engine repair
  • Heavy equipment operation
  • Forklifts, skid steers, trackhoes, telehandlers, or similar equipment
  • Welding and fabrication
  • Electrical troubleshooting and wiring
  • Hydraulics and pneumatics
  • Pumps, motors, bearings, belts, and chains
  • Equipment installation and commissioning
  • General construction skills
Minimum Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience working with tools, equipment, machinery, construction, maintenance, or mechanical systems.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Ability to work safely outdoors and in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position.
Work Environment

This is a hands-on position in an active industrial construction and rail facility.

The job involves working around construction activities, heavy equipment, machinery, dust, dirt, and noise. You should be comfortable standing, walking, bending, climbing, lifting, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Pay & Benefits

$27–$31/hr, depending on experience and demonstrated skills

  • Health, Dental & Vision Insurance
  • 401(k) with Company Match
  • Paid Time Off & Holidays
  • Overtime opportunities
  • Career growth in a growing company
  • Opportunity to help build and establish a brand-new Iron Horse facility
Why Join Us?

This isn't a job where you'll do the same thing every day. You'll have the opportunity to help build a new Iron Horse facility from the ground up and then grow with the operation as it becomes fully operational.

If you're the person people call when something needs to be built, fixed, moved, or figured out, we'd like to hear from you.
