Job Summary
The Nevada Department of Transportation is recruiting to fill multiple Highway Maintenance Worker 2 positions in District III as an underfill for a Highway Maintenance Worker 3 in Winnemucca, NV and the surrounding areas. Incumbents are responsible for performing routine maintenance duties, including keeping pavement surfaces, shoulders, clear zones, and associated roadways in good repair; winter maintenance, including snowplow operation and anti‑icing activities;
summer betterment projects; and assistance in emergency operations. These positions may require working in inclement weather.
One year of experience performing basic highway maintenance work; or one year of experience as a Highway Maintenance Worker I in Nevada State service.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities- Working knowledge of herbicide/insecticide application procedures and equipment.
- General knowledge of repairing highway roadbed, surface, shoulders, drainage facilities, and fixtures; materials, methods, and equipment used in routine highway maintenance activities; traffic control and routing through highway maintenance and construction zones; proper drainage and erosion control methods; snow removal and anti‑icing techniques, materials, and equipment; pruning and watering techniques for landscaped areas; traffic paints and beads and retro‑reflectivity qualities of these systems;
dust control techniques; endangered species habitats, protection techniques, and safe removal of non‑native species; environmental regulations that control the method of work at job sites; incident command system and operational controls used during emergency operations. - Ability to safely operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools associated with routine highway maintenance tasks, and read and understand the Maintenance Management System Manual.

Participation in the Nevada Public Employees Retirement System (PERS). Employees do not contribute to Social Security but will contribute to PERS if their position is at 50% or more full‑time equivalency. - Deferred Compensation:
Voluntary Deferred Compensation Program. - No Nevada state income tax.
- Public Service Loan Forgiveness:
Eligible due to public sector employment. - Longevity Pay:
Employees who have received a performance rating of “standard” or better and have completed eight or more years of continuous service are eligible for longevity pay. - Additional benefits may apply to employees covered under a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), depending on their designated bargaining unit.
