Upper School Visual Arts Teacher
North Shore Country Day School, a progressive, academically rigorous, co‑ed, JK‑12 independent school in suburban Chicago, seeks candidates for an Upper School Visual Arts Teacher for the 2026/27 Academic Year. We seek candidates who demonstrate strong preparation and experience in visual art and/or art education. A bachelor’s degree in art education, visual art, or a related field is preferred; advanced degrees (MAT, MFA, MAAE) and/or commensurate professional experience are viewed favorably.
Three or more years of applicable teaching experience and a demonstrable talent for and interest in teaching two- and three-dimensional visual art to Upper School students are also required to apply.
The course load will require the ability to teach both 2D and 3D art and a demonstrated flexibility and willingness to teach a range of electives within the art department. We are seeking candidates who are open to engaging with diverse media and approaches and who are eager to contribute to a dynamic, evolving visual arts program through semester‑long elective offerings.
North Shore is looking for creative and enthusiastic candidates who will bring new ideas to the department. North Shore is eager to consider applications from groups traditionally underrepresented in independent school communities.
Candidates should be able to provide a portfolio with examples of student artwork produced in their art classes and/or studio. A strong understanding of current trends in aesthetic education, global art history, and diverse expressions of visual culture is desired.
Ideal candidates will be believers and cultivators of the “growth mindset,” excellent written and oral communicators, collaborative and valued colleagues, and lifelong learners who are committed to ongoing professional development. We seek candidates who have a demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion, have invested in growing their intercultural competencies, and whose teaching practice—inside and outside the classroom—reflect those competencies. Candidates should nurture students’ abilities to express personal narrative in individualized ways, experiment with unfamiliar ideas and materials, and connect artmaking to their developing understanding of the world in which they live.
Candidates should be skilled integrators of educational technology into their teaching practice.
Base pay range: $60,000 – $90,000. Additional benefits include health and retirement benefits.
