Reporting to the Manager of Capital Accounting, the Senior Project Accountant is responsible for the creation and maintenance of financial and progress reporting including income statements, balance sheets, and other ad hoc reports used by both internal and external stakeholders. The incumbent reviews budgets and prepares financial reporting and forecasting for various users, including project managers, Shared Health leadership, as well as to our external funders.
The incumbent will work closely with the project management team to formulate cash flow need projections, accurate financial information, and complete accounting project statements. This will include working with project managers and external consultants to estimate progress and establish accruals in advance of invoice receipt. The incumbent will create financial reports which may include importing and processing of data from external sources into the general ledger including manipulation of source data.
- 5 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance.
- 3 years’ experience working with complex financial analysis and data, financial forecasting, reporting and operational metrics tracking.
- 2-5 years’ experience in project tracking/accounting, or similar.
- Particular knowledge of construction projects is essential.
- Experience in budget processing is an asset.
- Experience in SAP is an asset.
- Post-secondary degree in a related discipline such as management, economics, public or business administration from an accredited education institution; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Additional formal education in diverse and innovative financial business data modeling, funding and commissioning models in the public sector, and systematic process improvement methodologies (such as the lean transformation framework) are assets.

Qualifications And Skills- Exceptional ability to prepare project budgets, financial forecasts, and progress reporting.
- Advanced proficiency in managing general ledgers, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
- Must have excellent computer skills and technical aptitude and be comfortable with complex accounting transactions and systems including data manipulation and interchange.
- Must have excellent communication skills (oral and written) in the English language.
- Must have the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Ability and aptitude for recognizing, investigating, and analyzing complex problems and recommending solutions.
- Ability to plan, schedule, and complete work in a clear, concise, accurate and timely manner to meet changing deadlines.
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with staff at all levels.
