Position Summary
AIMA is seeking a Finance & Nation Support Advisor to support financial operations, audit preparation, reporting, and community-based financial administration work.
This role is ideal for someone with solid finance or accounting experience who understands the realities First Nations communities face, including funding restrictions, reporting pressures, community priorities, and the need for practical, relationship-based support. The role is intended as a strong mid-level position rather than a senior leadership post, which better matches the compensation range and the support-focused nature of the work.
The senior version of this role emphasized deep ISC/INAC funding, governance, and leadership responsibilities, while your current need is a more hands-on support role.
Key Responsibilities
Support day-to-day financial administration, file organization, and documentation managementAssist with audit preparation, reconciliations, and reporting supportWork with First Nation staff, administrators, and AIMA team members to improve financial processesAssist with tracking funding agreements and reporting requirementsHelp organize records related to ISC/INAC and other funded programsSupport budgeting, internal reporting, and financial workflow improvementsAssist with payroll-related financial documentation and coordinationHelp create practical templates, tools, and trackers for community and internal useTravel to First Nations communities as required to support projects and capacity buildingQualifications
Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related fieldMinimum 3–5 years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, finance, or financial administrationExperience supporting audits, reporting, reconciliations, or year-end preparationStrong organizational skills and attention to detailAbility to manage confidential financial information professionallyStrong Assets
Experience working with First Nations communities, Indigenous organizations, or funded program environmentsFamiliarity with ISC/INAC funding agreements
, reporting requirements, and how funding flows through programs and community operationsUnderstanding of challenges faced by First Nations communities, especially on-reserve operational realitiesExperience working with leadership, administrators, or finance teams in community settingsAFOA-related training or similar finance/community capacity experience is an asset
